I nodded with my chin gently leaned against his head, "I missed you so much," he commented after a brief moment of silence. "I was barely gone for one day, come on." I teased him. "I mean it," he sighed. "I missed you too," i confessed, "i could barely concentrate on anything the girls were saying the entire time." He finally pulled away and laid on his back, gently talling the empty space that was beside him. I laid there, rolling into his arms.

In the past when he wanted me, he just took. My question must have caught him off guard because he stiffened beside me, and his jaw tightened. When he finally spoke, his voice was low. “I told you,” he said quietly. “I miss you.” I didn’t flinch at his words, maybe because I’d heard them a thousand times before with no real change behind them. Instead, I leaned back slightly, still hugging the stuffed wolf to my chest, and asked the question that had been burning at the back of my mind for weeks now.

“You okay? You sound… far away.” I closed my eyes, sinking deeper into the mattress. “Just tired. Long day.” A small pause. I could picture him—probably still at the bar, sleeves rolled up, hair messy from running his hand through it, that easy grin tugging at his mouth. “Missed you,” he said simply. My chest squeezed. “Missed you too.” Another pause—this one heavier, more loaded.

Looking at me with an expression that had the particular quality of something he had decided to say before he could decide not to. "Yes," I said. A beat. "I missed you," he said. Just that. Nothing after it. No move toward me, no qualifier, no pivot into something physical that would make the words easier to have said. Just the sentence, sitting in the corridor between us, asking nothing and somehow asking everything. It disarmed me completely.

That was my answer in my thoughts. But knowing that he wouldn't stop until he gets a satisfactory answer, I said, "I lied, I missed you."

He ignored my tone. "None of your business" I said to him. "I missed you" He simply said.

I stuttered nervously. He didn't say a word but kept staring at me. I lowered my gaze as I fiddled with my fingers continuously. "Why the tears?" He asked, slicing the silence with his wicked voice. I am on the edge already. "Nothing," I answered, looking at him. "Tell me the reason," he ordered, making my heart race faster. "I....I miss my parents." I said. "They are dead and gone. Move on." He said nonchalantly. I furrowed my brows, feeling the sting in my heart.

He whispered the words to me and it set my stomach on another wild swirl. And I should have just stayed quiet. I wasn't obligated to tell him again that I missed him, right? Yet, my mouth refused to stay shut and I uttered the words back to him. "I missed you too, Grayson" "Ughh" He let out a small groan. "If we didn't have something important to do, I'd just let myself lose it all, bend you over the table and fuck you. You have no idea how fucking pleasing it is hearing you tell me you missed me."

Disappointment settles deep in my chest. I want to ask him why he isn’t touching me. Why he isn’t kissing me. But I already know the answer. We ended things. Still he’s looking at me like he wants me. Like he needs me just to breathe. “I missed you,” he says quietly. The words hit me harder than anything else could. I inhale deeply, unable to respond. When I don’t say anything, he steps away. Leaves the kitchen. Leaves me standing there alone. And as much as I love hearing I missed you from him it isn’t what I want.

God, I missed him so much. "I missed you," he said between the kisses while picking me up. I smiled.
