I RAN AS FAST AND AS FAR AS I COULD, desperate to put as much distance between myself and my old pack as possible. I had no idea where I was going, or what I would do when I got there. All I knew was that I had to get away, to start over somewhere new. But just when I thought I had escaped one terrible situation, another began. A week after I had left, when I was just thirteen years old, the werewolf curse made its first appearance.

I hated that. I was just eighteen; this is my first year of being a werewolf, not just any wolf, but the one that's supposed to protect the people, fight when they can't fight, and win battles bigger than them. Does this life not see that I am too young for things like this? I have been forced to embrace misfortune as soon as I turned eighteen, one right after the other. I don't even get to be comfortable. This war was going to be the pinnacle of my personality. I would be known throughout history for this.

I looked down at myself , I had a few bruises and cuts that had been tended to by the pack doctor . All my life , I’d always been unlucky . First it was that I couldn’t shift when I turned 16. Everyone had looked forward to their 16th birthdays because they got to connect with their mate and shift. That was what made us werewolves But my case was totally different. When I didn’t shift at 16, everyone thought I was slow and then as the years rolled by , nothing changed , hence solidifying rumors that I was in fact a cursed one. Thankfully, I have claws that are retractable like other werewolves so I had a fair enough good childhood.

After seeing the flash of pain in his eyes in reaction to the joke I had made at my expense, I continued so that my words could distract him from focusing on my pain.
