Nicole looked at the clock in the room and said, “I’m kind of in a hurry so I’ll make my story brief and comprehensive. After breaking your heart, I owe you an explanation my darling Muhammad.” Muhammad tried switching on the radio on his belt, in hope that anyone on the other end could listen to the conversation if the signal was restored. If Maryam and he were going to die tonight, their death might as well not be in vain. The most important thing was revealing the real identity of The First One.

I was a mother. And for the first time, everything felt whole

He kept his eyes fixed forward, as if I were invisible. A tall, regal-looking man stood up from his seat next to the Alpha. "Let us enjoy this feast!" he declared, raising his goblet high. "Our Alpha, our King, our Lord, The First of his kind, has conquered lands for us to thrive for centuries now! Soon, the world will be ours. Let us celebrate and be merry!" A roar of cheers erupted, but it felt forced, tense. I could feel eyes darting toward me, whispers passing like waves through the crowd. I stayed rooted in my seat, too afraid to move or draw more attention.

My eyes widened when I saw who it was, “You”

Keitha found herself accidentally being seen by the other person and rumbled softly for a few hours, clearing her throat trying to neutralize her embarrassment. "Nothing. Just casually looking at you." Keitha only forced her mouth to answer, but it was the same word "accidentally" that caused her to be told backwards by someone. "I know I'm beautiful, people love me a lot. I think you've seen that too, but you don't need to look so openly, especially with a look that looks like you want to kill me there. Outsiders look at me and think I've done something terrible."

Every single bit of this madness, this wonder. I want to speak, to tell him everything clawing in my chest. How I’ve never felt so seen, so claimed, so alive. How I’m scared and yet I’ve never been surer of anything. But the words collapse before they ever form, and the only sound that makes it out is the truth burning on my tongue. “Mate.”
