Flames races across the ground, bright and merciless. “No!” I scream, lungs breaking. Claudia and the others turn their backs, Eli dragged out with them. The door slams shut, sealing me inside. Flames roar, racing up walls. Smoke thickens, stinging my eyes, clawing down my throat. I choke, coughing hard. Heat licks my skin. My mind reels, flickers of fire striking me with painful familiarity. The memory of another blaze, another nightmare, gnaws at me. I cough harder, body weakening. Fire dances in my blurred vision, glowing in my eyes like the end itself. Is this how it all ends?

The marsh beyond the hollow walls stirred as if holding its breath. She felt everything. Rowan’s fury. Lucien’s hunger. Her own rising storm. I let my fingers touch them, and something like a memory flashed before my eyes, seeing Emily saving a girl from vampire claws and answering my unspoken question. Emily's eyes suddenly shot open, startling me, and I instinctively retrieved my hands from her when I saw the red and yellow flames burning in her eyes. "What the f*ck!" I internally gasped.
