But judging by his rugged yet strikingly handsome look, he seemed to be somewhere in his thirties. He was well-dressed, with the kind of face that was immediately easy on the eyes. I took one step back automatically. "Sorry—do I know you?" "No." He smiled. "But I know Dante. I'm a good friend of his. And I know you too." My brain immediately started running through every possible version of how this could go wrong. He knew my name. He'd said it so easily, naturally, like he was used to hearing my name. I tightened my grip on my phone.

“What do you mean?” I tilt my head at her. “Good, how? He’s my family’s enemy! He hates us!” “But if he doesn’t know, he doesn’t know. You never told him your full name or anything about yourself, right?” “Well, yeah, but—”

I knew it! I smirk putting the shell of the crab on my plate. " I can sense it" He glances at me for a minute and nods, " well it's fine that you know. At least I don't have to confess anymore. But how did you know?" " I told you, I can sense it. I'm not that dense. Everyone in my group knew about it" I said proudly. He seems to think about it and looked at me. " Yeah, I know that your group knew but I never thought that you will notice it too"

- He paused. " I never knew that he'd be the one to treat you this cruelly. If i had known, i'd have come for you sooner - That way, none of this would have occurred." - He spoke, regret evidently etched on his face.

“…is because of you.” I stared at him, unable to breathe. My mind twisted, scrambling for meaning. “You knew me?” I asked, my words choking on my throat.. He didn’t look away. “I’ve known you before you were born.” The air punched out of my lungs. “Huh?” I gasped, the sound ungraceful. How could that even make sense? He leaned back slightly, his arms folding across his chest calmly. “I knew your father longer,” he said, his tone quiet but steeped in something… sorrow? Regret? “He used to be a friend.”

I was curious but he looked like he knew who it was. "Do you know who that is?" I asked and he shifted back a little before sighing. "I do," "Who is that?" I rushed in a breath. "He should be dead by now," He muttered, my face widened he shock as he looked down not facing me. He knew who it was and he didn't tell me? And what did he mean by the person should be dead by now? What exactly was he saying? "Can you explain this in a way I can understand?"

How undeserving he was of the mess I had dragged him into. And I knew it. I knew that if he ever found out what I had done, what I was hiding, it would shatter him.

I raised my head to ask further questions but he cut me off. “I didn't know you were coming back,” he said. “If I had known, things would have been different.” I almost smiled. “You always say that,” I said. “After—” “I would have planned differently if I had known.” I let out a short, butter chuckle and leaned back against the wall.
