The sun hovered behind the clouds, and even with the cool breeze, I could still feel the heat seeping into my skin. I couldn’t take it easy. My head was messing with me and all I had been trying to do was to act calm like this did not affect me one bit. I struck the second ball hard. It rolled around the circle before finally dropping into the hole. Alimi stood with his arms folded as he watched me. I’m sure he was trying to get into my head, but I couldn’t let him. “Don’t be too hard on the balls,” he said. I walked up to the table, picked up my glass of wine, and drank it in one go.

I was attracted to the man that stole the life we are enjoying. The next few days I did all my best to avoid him. I make sure that we don't see each other. And so far I have been successful. A ball was held to formally introduce Alaric as the successor of the iron throne. I did not want to attend the ball but I can't come up with any smart excuse. So I attended the ball and pretended to be happy about it.

Smoke dances around me. The scent of this cigarette might bother me later when I'm with Carlo, but whatever, I can hide it with perfumes. Right now, I just need to take a moment to relax before facing the huge crowd later. I've never been a fan of grand balls. I'm not a fan of engaging in superficial conversations, and I'm not interested in putting in effort to impress males who are trying to make me their mate. Actually, the main reason I hate this ball is how they always make comments about me and compare me to my sister.

I dropped the call with the Queen mother, my mom, when we arrived at the ball held by the dark blood pack in commemoration to my arrival. Camelia muttered. "Why didn't you tell him?" I asked. “Olivia, how am I going to tell him that he plays on the basketball team and all the girls have eyes on them, and why would he look at me?” Camelia quipped. I smiled softly and turned to see William, but he wasn't there. “Where can I see a basketball player if I want to talk to someone?” I asked.

Is there anything I need to know?” I asked, not wanting to go to an event without knowing first-hand the basic stuff there. I had never been to a ball. What was it like? A normal party but just for the elites?
