It was 8:30am. "I have to go check on Noel.." I mumbled. I got up from bed and brushed my teeth and headed out of my room. I stopped in my tracks when I noticed Hazel sleeping peacefully on the couch in the living room with a book in her hand. "Did she fall asleep while reading?" I smiled and walked towards her. On my way, I ended up bumping into the marble vase on the table beside her and it shattered on the floor with a loud clank. Surprised by the loud noise, Hazel woke up and stared at me, and then at the floor where the broken pieces laid.

Like I was reciting a script I’d been forced to learn. But I said them anyway. Because he’d told me not to break. Because that was the only thing I had left that still felt like mine—whether I followed through or not. My weight shifted, uneven and careful, as I tested my balance. The room swayed slightly, exhaustion pulling at me like chains, but I stayed standing. Barely. Just enough to keep from sinking back down and letting the pain win. “I won’t break,” I repeated, quieter this time, my voice steadier than I felt. “Even if I already feel shattered.”

"I don't know. Would it be enough for you?" "I don't know either. But it might be better than this emptiness." She turned to face me. "Adam, I'm broken. Fundamentally broken. And I don't think I can be fixed. So maybe I need to learn to be broken differently. In a way that's less damaging to everyone around me." "You're not damaging us."

" I do not know how. Do not know what to do. Do not know how to fix what I just broke. All I know is that I just lost her. And this time it might be permanent.

"What the hell is wrong with it?" Adrian lets out a breath, his shoulders slumping. He wipes a hand over his face, smearing the rain. "It just... it broke down. It’s the first time it’s ever acted up like this." He holds up his phone, the screen dark. "I’ve been trying to reach a mechanic, but the line isn't going through. I can't get a signal."

I replied slowly. He moved his hair backward with his hand, clearly frustrated. "I'm broken. I'm dangerous. I'm damaged. I don't want to hurt you." "I'm okay with that," I replied, even though I was unsure of what he was talking about. I approached him, closer this time, as our faces were just inches apart. "If you think you're broken, you're wrong. I wish you could see yourself the way I see you. You are not broken. You're kind. You go all out of your way just to protect me, to make me happy. And that's enough. A broken man can not do that."

I say glumly. “Why do you think that?” She asks, her tone sounding sad. “I’m broken and damaged. This should go to someone… who isn’t,” I say dejectedly. “You have been broken – physically and mentally – that’s true, but why does that make you undeserving of such a gift? The way I see it, it means you’re someone who can understand its significance and who will use it wisely,” she says as she locks her eyes with mine. “Did you know, when a broken bone is healing, during that time, that broken place in the bone becomes its strongest part? Being broken isn’t a personality flaw. It shows us just how strong we truly are.”

She then tried to recompose herself and dialed a number . "Bro !!! I am coming back . And yes, you were right . Anthony is an asshole . " And she started crying again .

I remind " Thank you???" She ask with a frown " Oh thank you for all your help. At least now I am stock in the middle of the forest with a broken ankle and no home of getting home" She says mockingly " At least you are alive" I remind. She should be more grateful, once there is life, there is hope. " You call this living. In the middle of no where, with no amenities. At this rate I will die from a wound infection before the cork crocks tomorrow" She grumbles
