FLASHBACK Brett struggled with a recurring memory which he couldn't forget no matter how hard he tried. He saw a negative vision of that night at the club. There was the silhouette of a slender person who approached him, and they had a short laugh. He could hear her voice echoing in the abyss and her enthusiastic tone, but he couldn't remember who she was. He remembered the sound of her moans, her sudden fright and his soft hands sliding down her bare skin. He remembered the coolness of the air conditioner and the intensity of their sex, but that was it! He couldn't remember any other thing; not her name or her face.

Attention sat deep, calm, unbroken. Out came the words, spilling ahead as I kept going. Flashes come first. A crash shows up early, like a film playing ahead of time. Months prior, whispers of betrayal hum through empty hallways. The rival’s strategy? Already lived it, somehow. Time folds when memory runs backward. In another version of events.” My throat tightened. “I remember my own decline. The fatigue. The isolation. The way I grew weaker every day until… until I didn’t wake up one morning.”

It makes her wonder and makes her more curious about it. The face are blurred but she knew that the girl on her mind was her and she’s with a man who’s tall than her. They were having fun, which she can see herself laughing. She can’t hear the man’s voice, all she can hear is the voice that kept on talking. It seems that the voice talking to her narrates the scenes on her mind while she was watching herself as if she was just dreaming. “Why does there’s a flash back on my mind which I just heard from someone’s voice that I don’t remember?” she asked herself.

Dante's POV I was walking through the woods. I knew I was in a flashback. I had those where I remembered things from the past that I had forgotten. The past my kind had somehow refused to remember. I'd see a blond man walk away. I never saw his face just the back of his hair. I didn't know who he was but over time I'd figured maybe he was my Sire from the times I couldn't remember. I watched him walk off and then different images flashed before my eyes like normal. I let the flow. This was my most recent gift. It was a gift to me because I could remember pieces of my past.

“You’ll understand soon enough. But first, let me show you something…” With a snap of his fingers, the room seemed to shift. The walls shimmered, and suddenly, we were no longer standing in the same chamber. Instead, we were surrounded by images—flashes of memories, of moments from my past that I hadn’t thought about in years. My childhood home, my parents, faces I recognized but didn’t fully remember. But then, there were other things too—dark, hazy images, like glimpses of a life I hadn’t lived but felt connected to in some way.

Finally, I shook my head and said, “Yes.” The four of them began to chant and the candles around me lit and the flames grew higher as they continued. The wind began to pick up and I closed my eyes allowing myself to relax and let them do what they had to do. As I could hear their chants getting louder images started to flicker in my head as if someone was rewinding a movie and then it stopped and went on fast forward. This time in slower motion and I could see more images appearing in this direction than in the rewind. Slowly each image that was deleted made a presence and I started to remember with each one.

I got flashes of trees and blood and pain in my mind, and I felt like I was missing something. Apparently, I was getting a flashback of the park incident. It happens rarely, but Martina explained that when my current experiences overlap with a memory that Marcus had manipulated, I get flashbacks of the true memories that his Gift was suppressing. Like…I’m looking at two holo-screens at the same time, one over the other, and they’re both playing the same scene from the same movie…but then something similar to what you’re watching happens in real life, and suddenly the other screen fizzles out and it’s showing something completely different, and you just know, that it’s fundamentally wrong som
