His body was that of a falcons but he still had his human head. He lifted his left wing and saw the action being mirrored by his shadow. He had turned into a hybrid of some sort. He no longer saw the screen of his life playing nor did he hear the voices of sorrow. He took a step and felt a cold piece of metal around his right claw. It was the book. Somehow he knew.

I grabbed the long broom and cleaned the floors, tidying up the books on the shelves when I stumbled on a book with a strange title. "How to sacrifice humans to idols." That was the title of the book. For a moment, my mind beat very fast. It felt like it was specifically written by someone who knew me, and wanted to sacrifice me to idols. I was a wolf of course, but I've got a human body too. I turned the pages of the book, trying to see if I could practice one of those spells written there. I wasn't a witch neither was I a warlock. Did this mean that there's a witch somewhere in the pack but the Alpha, Simon, doesn't want to let us know?

"They didn't start out human?" "If by human, you mean like we are now, then no." He shook his head, moving closer to the book. "Appendix A," he said. The book quietly flipped toward the back, its pages stirring the air with the smell of old paper. When it stopped, I unconsciously recoiled from the pictures on the page, finding it difficult to grasp what I saw. "What are those things?" I finally asked. The creatures had dark and hairy bodies. Their arms and legs were the same lengths, similar in proportion to an ape.

Ajax raised his hand to the opening and Zayn tilt his head in rage. There was no way he would succumb to the vices of the enemy. "I'm not going anywhere with you," Zayn tightened his fist once again and Ajax scoffed and said, "Agreed, you're powerful but witches would always be a pain in the ass. A good reason they were destroyed from the Inhuman world" 'Ihuman world'. Could he be referring to the wolf world? He had no idea and an opening had appeared silently behind him as he made to move at Ajax, the force from within pulled him inside.

He showed me the page of a book with a picture of humans with spears attacking creatures who were half-human and half-wolf. “Eventually,” he took the book back to flip through it again, “werewolves fought back and gradually took control of our society.” He showed me another page, this one with a picture of a werewolf stepping on a human’s neck and confiscating their spears. I barely took in the image before he snapped the book shut and handed it to me. I took it, reading the title: The Hidden History: The Werewolf-Human War Through The Great Claiming. “What’s The Great Claiming?” I asked.

But on the lower shelf, pushed toward the back like something filed away rather than stored, I found it. No title on the spine. I pulled it free and opened the cover. “ A Complete Record of the Human Management System as Established by the Wolf Council in the Third Year Following the Great War’s Cessation,” I read out loud to myself. Great War. The same war, Mye had mentioned. I carried the book to the chair by the dead fireplace and sat down. The first section was bureaucratic—council minutes, resource allocations, the dry language of people building something terrible and calling it policy. I moved through it quickly, scanning for substance.

After that I walked into the lecture hall about ten minutes late for classes. Instead of the calm I expected to see, the entire hall was louder than normal. The professor hadn't arrived yet. The girls were clustered in groups and whispering fast with soft giggles. Guys leaned over desks with their phones out, showing each other something. “Did you see him yet?” one girl asked her friend. “They say he’s from the UK." Her friend squealed a reply. "He's so hot. And I heard he wrote like three books on advanced dynamics.”

I was lost in trance, lost in a world of my own with the sound of my heartbeat the only thing I could hear and feel. But, then again, it lasted only for a few seconds before a voice filled with whimper and pain pulled me out. Rough and harsh without any care. “I…won’t die alone, Vincenzo.” The voice muttered, his voice trembling and filled with so much anguish and resentment. “I must kill your wife. I have to carry out my duty assigned to me by the Italian Mafia.” After the voice, came a hand, filled with blood reaching out to me. Fear shot through my spine as I instinctively crawled backwards, away from the red hand covered in blood.
