Ashina's POV “There are no innocent ones in the dungeons and you of all people should know that. The only ones here without punishment are the ones left to die and in that light they need to be prepared for their death in good health” I didn't like the smile on his face knowing what he meant by his words. There have to be people who were accused wrongly, besides not everyone convicted gets to face the punishment of their crimes. “There have to be people who were accused falsely and when you find out about them, how do you handle it?”

‘It seems Carson torturing Jeremiah too much again…’ As he walked farther, the other prisoners took a peek of him from a small window on their doors. “Prince Aiden please release me, I’m innocent,” one of the inmates pled. Aiden just snorted, ‘what a bunch of losers,’ he thought and walk away. When Aiden arrived in front of Jeremiah’s cell, a crazy old man who stayed next door showed his face at the door’s window of his cell, and copied what the other prisoners saying to Aiden, “Prince Aiden please release me, I’m innocent,” with semi mocking tone and then he laughed maniacally.

“I am gonna take you to your parents because they are sorry” “What? parents? I don’t even have any parents!” “They were bailed… their punishment period was over…” “What? No. They were imprisoned for life” “No… I mean, whatever but they are out now” “How do you even know about them?” “You don’t think that I am just a man on the streets who has no connections with anyone and can’t find anything on his own, do you?” “Look, Chris” I looked at him. “I don’t know if you know or not, but they died for me that day”

"Then every hour... one innocent prisoner from my cells dies." The camera shifted focus. Rows of frightened men, women, and even children were locked inside rusted iron cages in the background. Lorrie covered her mouth in horror. "They're innocent..." Dante nodded on screen, as if answering her directly. "They are. They have nothing to do with this war. Which means their lives now depend entirely... on your decision." The broadcast cut out, leaving a wall of static before the screen went completely black. No one moved. No one spoke.

Or show any sign of weakness. "I want you to understand something." Dante's tone was...soft. Even if his voice was laced with vulnerability, his grip on her only tightened. "You can't begin to imagine how innocent he was. Cain... he.. He didn't deserve any of this. He didn't even belong in this life." His fingers dug in, bruising. "I did everything I could to protect him. To keep him away from people like you." His voice betrayed him and broke slightly, showing a rare glimpse of grief. But just as quickly, his expression hardened again, like cold steel.

Our names often overlap, and we tend to add physical features to distinguish one another. I step into the basement and switch on the single light. The bulb dangling from the ceiling casts a dim glow over the man tied to the chair. He’s bloody, covered in bruises and cuts, his clothes dirty and torn. Hair filthy, skin covered in filth. He’s been sitting in his own piss and shit for five days. Keeping a prisoner this long is risky. With each passing day, they get another chance to escape, to be discovered. We were lucky. “I hear they call you Vinnie the Nose,” I say as I lazily unbutton my jacket. “Walked around the city bragging about killing some kids. Is that right?”

He lashes out, striking them down one by one with precision and force. The remaining guards hesitate, exchanging nervous glances, but reinforcements arrive, and soon over ten men restrain Arthur. “Father, please!” Arthur shouts, struggling against the iron grip of the guards. His voice is raw with desperation. “Don’t kill him! I’m begging you! He is innocent, he was forced to do it, you heard general.”

“Until you sort it out.” I searched his face. Looking for the catch. “For how long?” I asked. “However long it takes.” “That doesn’t sound like you.” “Don’t get used to it.” “Why?” I asked. He didn’t answer right away. His jaw tightened slightly. Then— “Cole asked,” he said. There it was. Clean. Simple. Safe. Something in my chest dropped into place. Not comfortably. Just… predictably. “Right,” I said. Of course.

One of the officers spat scornfully. Ben's eyes darkened in surprise. “You must be mistaken.” Ben tried to defend me. The disbelief in his voice was unmistakable, but the two officers would not hear any of it. They keep pushing me forward. In desperation, Ben grabbed my wrist to hold me off. "You can not take her. She is innocent." Ben insisted. My heart swelled with gratitude. Ben's trust meant something. I could not say a word edgewise in defense of myself. Until now, my head was reeling from the swiftness of it all. One moment I was ready to face my death, and now I am going to prison for a crime I did not commit.

She was desperate for her life, every week there would always be a betting event, where many VVIPs would come to place their bets.
