End Me, Mend Me
Why wouldn't they let me die?
"Evelyn… You're awake?"
A voice, hoarse and almost broken, echoed in my ears.
I turned my head and saw Damien leaning over the bedside. He was still in his black tuxedo, but the swagger of a groom was gone.
His collar was torn wide open, his hair a mess, and stubble darkened his jaw. His eyes were swollen and bloodshot, looking worse off than I did after dying once.
Seeing me awake, a frantic joy flashed in his eyes. He gripped my hand so tightly as if he wanted to fuse it with his own flesh and bone.
