She looks at me a long moment before nodding and walking out of my office. ~~~ Riley POV I’ll be damned if I let my brother ruin this for Quinn. That man is strung so tight that he’s made my best friend doubt herself and I’m done sitting by and watching it. As soon as I leave Quinn’s office, I head straight to Emerson’s. I knock and don’t wait for a response before barging in. He’s in a meeting with Clint. “Riley, is everything okay?” my mate asks, jumping up.

Fury burned through my eyes. I was hoping for her to hear her say something, but she didn't. She looked right into my eyes as if searching for something I wasn't sure of. However, when she leaned closer to me, her ment breath fans my face, all I wanted to do was to run my fingers on her smooth cheeks and lips, but then I do not know how she was going to feel if I did all that. Riley was a difficult woman; different from other Werewolves that I have seen. Molding my fist tightly, I waited wondering what she was going to do next when she leaned against me and pressed her lips on me.

I still feel uncontrollable jealousy when I think of Riley turning to him for help when she is in trouble. I mean I agree I may have been tough on her at the meeting but why didn’t she think of coming to me for help? Just maybe, I think I am in love with her. I couldn't believe I was thinking this way. I had always been a rational person, but when it came to Riley, I seemed to lose all sense of reason. Riley is so different out of all the ladies I’ve crossed paths with, she makes my toes curl and always keeps me on the edge without even knowing.

She moved closer to me and spread the textbook on both of our laps. "How was the account balanced here?" She asked in a soft voice. I was still stunned that Chineye was in my room after many weeks of no communication. I started explaining to her how the account was balanced. As I explained, I noticed she drew closer and closer to me. Suddenly, her head dropped on my shoulder; I became numb.

Sam stated and hung up quickly. Jackson went into the room to see Riley staring intently at the full length mirror, looking at the scar that went down her outer thigh to the beginning of her knee. He stayed quiet as she moved closer to the mirror and ran her fingers over the bruises and scratches on her face. He walked over seeing the look of sadness in her eyes. He wrapped his arms around her stomach as he kissed the back of her neck. “You’re gorgeous, love.” He said as he continued to sprinkle soft loving kisses on her neck.

Mom was mated to Dad, who was the Beta of a pack to the north called Emerald Canyon, so she lives there now. I look up and sure enough, Gavin and his stooges, Jordan and Mark, are making their way down the hall. I’m just about to bolt when Riley slips his arm around my waist and pulls me in close to his chest. He wraps his other arm around my shoulders, hiding my face from the world, and nuzzles my neck where it meets my shoulder. It’s a trick we came up with in middle school. If people thought we were making out, they would leave us alone. This time it feels different somehow. It feels more sincere and less playful.

"No more games, Riley," he said in a hard voice, shaking her hard. "Trust me, you do not want to come to my bed this way. I will hurt you, woman." She opened her mouth to deny him, but nothing came out. She realized she was both desperately frightened and aroused. They had been dancing around each other for weeks. And if there was one thing Riley loved it was the adrenaline rush of a good chase scene, but somewhere along the way things had changed. He had changed. Things became real. She sensed this was no longer just a fuck to him. He intended to keep her. To chain her to him. And she so wasn't ready for that.

Riley was standing outside my door. She was wearing Emerson's t-shirt. I recognised it immediately — dark grey, slightly too large on her, the same one I had seen hanging over his desk chair earlier this week. Her hair was down and her makeup had been carefully redone at some point in the last few hours, the kind of effort that says I was waiting and I wanted to look like I hadn't been. She looked at me. Then past me into my room. "Have you seen Emerson?" she said. I kept my face completely still. "No."

I force myself to breath, shoving my nerves to aside and replacing them with determination. I raise my hand and knock. A few seconds pass in silence, so I knock again, a little more hesitantly this time. When the door finally opens, it isn't Jordan-it's Riley. She looks furious. She slams her shoulder into mine as she brushes past without a word. I peek inside to find Jordan sitting on the edge of his bed with his head buried in his hands. Yeah... this feels uncomfortable. I'm terrible in situations like this. If emotions are running high, my first instinct is always to disappear.
