Riley grinned at me, his chest rising and falling as he caught his breath. “Maybe. But you were about to let that creep drag us into God-knows-what. She just shifted closer, both of her hands were on my face now, holding me there like she was anchoring me to the present. “She needs you,” Riley said quietly, echoing Leah’s words from earlier. But when she said it, it didn’t sound like a duty. It sounded like she was giving me a choice. The words dug into me. I shut my eyes, exhaling through my teeth.
