William’s voice startled me, and I glanced at him, realizing how glued I’d been to my phone.
I rolled my eyes and let out a deep, frustrated breath. “Of course, I’m not,” I snapped, tossing my phone aside and turning to glare at him.
“Who is Victor?” I asked, my voice cold and demanding. “And why does the governor think I am his woman?”
William shifted uncomfortably, his jaw tightening as if he were weighing his words. “I don’t know,” he said finally, but his voice cracked slightly. If I didn’t know better, I’d say he was scared of this Victor person.
