Marcus glanced up from his computer. "Ooh, whose the admirer?" he asked, a grin spreading across his face. "Shut up," I laughed, but my cheeks flushed with pleasure. I carefully untied the simple white ribbon, my fingers fumbling with anticipation. I lifted the lid. And my smile died. Nestled inside against a bed of stark white tissue paper weren't roses or tulips. They were flowers I'd never seen before. A deep, bruised purple, almost black. The petals were waxy and sharp, the stems twisted and thick with thorns. They looked... violent.

Branches twisted unnaturally, bending like they were being pushed inward by invisible hands. Shadows slipped between the trunks, long, thin shapes that didn’t belong to any animal I knew. Blue snarled. Ambush! Aurora, shift! Now! I tried. But before my bones could even begin to change, a circle of violet light erupted beneath me. Ancient lines carved themselves into the dirt, spiraling outward in intricate, glowing patterns that pulsed with unnatural power.

Her mind raced with memories she thought she had long buried. Marcus's laughter was a cold, sly sound. "You'll never be free from me, Elle. I know all your damn secrets, and I'll use them to drag you back down into the darkness with me." He pulled her hair, his grip tight, and she winced in pain. "Do you understand me?" As she tried to free herself, Marcus felt her trembling in his grip. Her hands shook, and her eyes teared up. "Now come with me," he growled, pulling her with a strong force. Tears poured down her cheek as she screamed for help, struggling and fighting back.

She immediately fell to her knees, trying to pin all the blame on herself. "Please, Simon, show mercy and spare Essie! It was all our fault! She really tried to save Mrs. Stewart. She even donated her blood to her!" "You mean when she deliberately ate mangoes before the transfusion?" Simon sneered. "She knew Mrs. Stewart was allergic to mangoes and still ate them. She was ensuring Mrs. Stewart wouldn't survive. That's truly considerate of her." I hadn't expected Simon to uncover even that detail. The three of them grew even more terrified, and their arrogance from earlier was completely gone. Now, each of them was kneeling, one more submissively than the other.

I kept calling until I get down to the front room but they weren't there as well as in the dinette so I went back to the front room when I heard the door being forcibly opened and the door crashing loudly to the floor.

Who the hell is this? "Please get out of my room." I mumbled, my hand reaching for the call button slowly, praying they would not see. "Please." My finger found the square button but before I could press it a freezing cold hand was wrapped around my wrist. "Ow! What the hell? Let go of me!" A growl that sounded almost inhuman came next, then the stranger's face drew near, and all I could see of it was bright crimson eyes that almost surely meant my death.

The jitters in my chest kept me restless as I silently climbed down from the bed. In the dimly lit room, Grace Everly, my friend since our orphanage days, was seated on the surplus computer chair, donning an inexpensive headset and an oversized old hoodie that draped her frame. Her short, tousled raven hair carelessly clung at the ends.
