“You must have worked hard at the office, son. Good work.” The words felt foreign—heavy and fake. Mother stepped closer, her eyes shining unnaturally. “You must be exhausted too,” she said sweetly. “I prepared your favorite meal.” Then her gaze slid to Slash, lighting up. “And who might this young, handsome man be?” Disgust crawled up my spine. They knew exactly who he was. Yet here they were, putting on a performance so polished it made my skin itch. “I’m Jeremiah Slash Johnson, ma’am,” he said smoothly. “Cassian’s best friend.”

Josh answers. “Oh, OK, yeah, that makes sense. Is Nick out there?” I ask nervously, and Josh groans. “Yeah, the bastard is out there; he is lucky he is my future Alpha because I wanted to kick his ass some more and kick him out of the hospital.” Josh snaps, making me chuckle, and he glares at me. I lift my hands up in surrender.

His long eyelashes framed his gaze, his look one she wasn't sure how to decipher. "Did he get in an accident, or was he born with something wrong?" Jake took a subtle step back, his hand reaching out to play along the top of his desk. "He was born with neither of his legs functional. Kid’s smart as a whip and can make a basket in that wheelchair from just about anywhere on the court."

She spoke tauntingly making my mouth left ajar in shock and embarrassment…. James Russo! You are going to be fucking death of me!!

“Coffee?” I stare at his offering dubiously, still waiting for the hammer to drop. “Make it Irish and I’m in.” Gray frowns disapprovingly, but Jax moves over to the kitchen counter, rifling through a few half-empty bottles until his hand lands on the whiskey. Grinning, he pops the lid off of his own coffee cup, adding some before making his rounds to add a shot to everyone else’s. “Did he deserve it?” Theo asks, eyes flickering up to mine as Jax tips some whiskey into his cup.

I swear it. When I returned to the pack house, Jake was already there, his face twisted in pain as he spoke with a group of warriors. He looked up as I approached, his eyes locking onto mine. “Who?” he asked simply. “Tim,” I said, my voice breaking. “They killed Tim.” Jake’s expression darkened, his jaw clenched so tightly I thought it might break. He turned away, slamming his fist into the nearest wall. The sound echoed through the room, a raw, physical manifestation of his rage.

Jack raised the shard of obsidian. "Gods don't choke."

I gulped, this can’t be real, no no no no no “Oh but it is real” “what do you mean by you’re my wolf?” “Because that’s what I am, your wolf” Tears sprang to my eyes, determined to stop this madness the only way I know how, I took out a bottle of Jack Daniel’s from my bag and drank from it. “Don’t do that Devonne, it’s the full moon in the next five Days….. you finally get to see me, after so long” I drank again and said nothing. “I am a part of you, your trauma forced me into a place where I couldn’t come out, but now you get to meet me”

Jack asked with an eyebrow raised, and I pointed my finger to the large yellow Stuart the Minion sitting on a bench. "Win it for me," I begged with the best puppy eyes I could muster. "Why don't I win it for you, Princess?" Liam said as he stood next to Jack. "Just like old times, eh, Jack? Where I always give your girls what they want and always win," he added with a slow smirk spreading on his lips. I was about to tell Jack not to bother, but he grabbed the water gun and handed the vendor a five-dollar bill while glaring at his brother. "Not this time, Liam."
