“Who the hell are you?” I asked as I pressed my back against the door. The man standing by my window looked at me through narrowed eyes, and I had the impression that he was studying me. He wasn’t a man—this I realized a beat later. He was a vampire. His eyes were that unnatural blue color that only ever suited Felix, in my opinion. “What do you want from me?” I asked loudly. “So, you’re the Jade who has my brother’s heart in her fist,” he remarked. I didn’t like the way he spoke. It was like he was threatening me yet trying not to show it at the same time. “Interesting. I thought there would be more to you.”

He imagined how things would have been different for her had she not had her encounter with a bunch of vampires that night last year. Dorian had met Jade at a Rob Zombie concert; Dorian and the team he had at that time were, of course, hunting vampires. Jade was just there for the music, along with her leather-and-metal clad buddies. A group of bloodsuckers had happened upon them, invited them to sneak backstage for some fun, and mayhem ensued. Katerina Drackon, the vampire hunter who I found extremely attractive was disguised as a boy and beating up vampires at and illegal underground fight! That was beyond ATTRACTIVE. Good girl is actually not all that good. Immediately I felt my plan of getting her to hate me slowly slip away. And the thought of grabbing her and placing my lips on hers making an appearance.

I don’t want to do this either! but if you still won’t drive me there, I’ll bite my tongue and bleed here!” Akira shouted with tears streaming down her cheeks. The driver got spooked. Everyone knows that the blood of Clemente, as well as those from the two clans, is sweeter than anything else in this world and it is most sought by vampires. And so if Akira were to do that, for sure those vampires would run to where they are now and would be killed by them.

She replied calmly. “That wasn’t adapting.” He said and her eyes flicked toward me briefly. “What do you want me to do? Lose control?” She asked. “You didn’t react at all.” I said. “I reacted exactly enough.” She said. Another group of vampires appeared from the corridor ahead and this time there were five. I braced automatically but Saphire didn’t even slow down. She hit them head on without hesitation and the precision in her movements felt almost surgical while she cut through the first attacker before it could fully strike.

Declan: Declan stood in the doorway to his bedroom, looking at Cassidy. She was still asleep, lying on her stomach with her face to the door, blonde hair spread out in a tangled mess on the pillow. She was almost the exact opposite of Aster in appearance, with delicate elven features, bright hazel eyes that were vaguely reminiscent of a lycanthrope’s, and a soft, full body. “Hey,” Matthew whispered behind him. “Let’s talk.” Declan nodded, and turned to Cassidy’s guard – a young vampire. “I’ll be back.”

Tell me one thing, Henry, how did you find me?” A vampire can’t track another vampire in any special way other than what the average human would have to result in in finding another human. He had to have some connection in a high place. “Curious, are we? I only needed to find one person, one person I knew would be by your side. It’s quite sad that she still follows you wherever you go. I don’t have anybody like her. The only person I have now because of you is Daisy.”
