I donated a dozen books from the Barlowe house—stories I wanted other young girls to find: Jane Eyre, Little Women, The Secret Life of Bees, Becoming, The House on Mango Street, and more. Books that had whispered to me when the world was too loud. Books that had taught me what a woman could be. Mrs. Bertram smiled as she scanned the titles. “This will change someone’s life,” she said. I nodded. “That’s the goal.” I stopped at the market afterward for fresh apples and ginger chews. A few people I knew offered kind smiles, congratulations, warm nods. The town had softened. The whispers had quieted. And even when they hadn’t… I no longer let them land.

I found him so cool whenever he shared his faith with the whole family. I marched right up to the bays and handed my card to a teenager cashier at the counter to make a purchase. She was wearing a cute and tiny hairpin on the left side of her ear, her above shoulder-length black hair made her even more gorgeous. "Hello, Miss Astrid! It is good to see you here again." She cheerfully greeted me while placing my books on a paper bag printed with the name of the shop. "Hello, Marianne! Are you done with your class already?" She is the daughter of Mrs. Williams, who owned this bookstore.

Naomi's POV Its been a few days since the Amber incident and she hasn't approached me since. I guess the warning Riley gave her worked. I was still a bit down because I didn't get the books wanted Saturday. All the book groups are still buzzing about the books, some people even start getting ther books already. While I had nothing to look forward to. And nothing new to read. To cheer myself up I decided to go to the bookstore down the road, even its run by an old lady she tries her best to keep up with the latest stories and the most popular one while still having all the classics available.

“Athena,” Nikki called out as she enters the pack house’s mini-library. “I am here,” I shouted, I was seated on the floor beside one of the bookshelves. I didn’t know that the pack house this much of books and some of them are even documentaries of the previous people of Purple Hill. I will learn so much more here than from the books that I will buy in the book store. “I never knew you love reading,” Nikki said as she sat beside me while placing the tray of food she was carrying on the floor.

Oliver said I was just listening to them, and could not wait to see which first-edition books he have. The other bookstores we were in had so many first-edition books, but Adam had already bought all of them, so let us see if this store has something he did not collect. He walked, rushing to welcome his first potential customers. “Welcome to the red rose bookstore!” he greeted kindly. He politely invited his first customer, who turned out to be an old woman with a teenage girl around the age of seventeen. “Is there anything I can help you with,” he offered with a kind smile. The old lady in eccentric clothes looked at Addy intensely. Her wrinkled hand pointed at the teenage woman on her right side.

Adley’s eyes darted down to the tan stilettos one of the mannequins wore and cooed, tearing the door open and charging inside. It was comforting to know Adley hadn’t faked her personality when she “moved” into town. It was a hard choice between department store chic, or whatever you could muster at the grocery mart. “I’m actually going to head a few shops down to the bookstore we passed. I’ll see if they have any books on curses and hexes.” I had almost thought Ally was talking to me until Adley made a sound of excitement and nodded wildly.
