Jack growled at him. “Ok...ok...I...uh how do we do this?” Jonah shuttered out. “Are they gone?” Jack asked impatiently. “Yes, I made sure they started to sail away before I came back.” Jonah said with a nod still looking at Jack’s hand. Before Jack could say anything the closet door busted open and Claire all but ran to the desk. She stopped short seeing Jack. He was a bloody mess. Blood dripped down the side of his neck and over his collar bone coming from a long wound behind his ear. His shoulder was now bleeding again and she couldn’t take her eyes off the knife impaling him to the desk.

The other one stopped and snarled some kind of response. Jane was running blindly, but she knew that the man behind her would easily catch her. So she ducked behind a dumpster, reached down, and grabbed a board from an abandoned shipping crate, raising it to shoulder level. She barely heard the footsteps, but she stepped out and swung with all her might at head level. The board impacted the man's . . . the thing's head, smashing its sunglasses and causing him to drop his knife. Then Jane saw those glowing red eyes, and she felt terror, unlike anything she had ever experienced.

Before he lands, I spin and catch his hind leg in my jaws. I pull. Hard. His body slams into the stone with a heavy thud. The other one crashes into me a second later, his teeth sinking into my side. Pain flares, sharp enough to make my vision flicker. But it does not stop me. I let go of the first and turn on the second. My jaws snap around his neck, clamping down with everything I have. He thrashes, claws scraping against my chest, but I do not loosen my grip.

I dodged and lunged with my swords. He snapped them away and came at me again. This time I let the sword in my right hand go. My hand went up and grabbed his jaw. He was snarling, teeth elongated but I held his jaw tight in my grip, using the extra strength that Nova provided me. Pulling his jaw down, I stared at him.

My mouth opened to scream, but nothing came out. A wet snarl ripped through the air. Something heavy slammed into one of the shooters from the side. He screamed before it cut off in a gurgle. The second man spun, rifle shooting. Bullets sprayed the wall, punching holes inches from my head. The wolf moved like a shadow. A blur of red and teeth. The second shooter’s arm went flying, ripped clean off at the shoulder. Blood sprayed in an arc. He howled, trying to swing the rifle one-handed. But Jaws closed around his throat. It was twisted and snapped.
