This time, Sharon wasn't fast enough to stop him. He burst into the living room and froze. Joanna was lying at the bottom of the stairs, her whole body covered in blood. The trail of red ran from the steps to the floor, vivid and jarring. For a second, it felt like déjà vu, as if he'd seen this nightmare before. Panic shot through him as he rushed over and cradled her in his arms. Looking at her bloody face, he sensed a fear he'd never felt before taking hold of him.

Her eyes began to turn red with fury, a frightening sight indeed. “Hey, what are you up to?” Joan playfully tapped her on the shoulder, startling Charlotte. “How dare you scare me!” Charlotte was a bit angry at first. Joan always liked to surprise her, which frustrated her. Luckily, she did not have a heart condition, or she would have been scared to death by now. “What are you just standing here for? You haven't said a word, and I’m getting bored! Come keep me company!” Joan said, making a mischievous face.

Her steps hit the ground gently like she is feeling thousands of eyes on her.
