I feigned relaxation and was just about to speak when Lloyd ran over, like a shark smelling blood. Worked up, he pointed at me and Wendy, then said to the reporters, “Can you believe them?! They’re actually cheating in public! Take their photos! Wendy Clark won’t be able to hide this!” He sounded really excited, and his features were twisted, which made him look like a monster. However, the cameras trained on me turned to Lloyd, taking him by surprise. Just as he wondered whether they had been bought over, Wendy slapped him in the face, stunning him so much that he found himself unable to react.

Natalie…" I walked past him and continued on my way. This time, he didn't follow. When I reached the intersection, Ivy sent me a message. "Ms. Lawson, we're playing a mystery box game at tomorrow's team-building event. Are you coming? I heard everyone's guaranteed to win a prize!" Looking at those words, I smiled and replied, "I'll be there." The next day, I drew a small card at the company team-building event. It didn't say, "Thank you for participating." Instead, it read, "Today's Lucky Winner."

"I'm sorry... Gideon, I'm so sorry..." Trembling, Brady pulled out his phone and dialed my number which was marked as his emergency contact. I always picked up on the first ring. This time, it didn't go through. Helpless, he collapsed onto the floor and called again and again. "Please, I'm begging you. Please answer the phone. I was wrong. I was really wrong..." Brady could barely catch his breath. The bedroom door opened. Josephine stepped inside and immediately understood what had happened.

“Let’s finish the game.” “He better not start anything,” Declan muttered as we all moved back to our positions. “He won’t,” I cut in quickly. Jackson raised an eyebrow. “How do you know that?” “He just won’t, okay?” I insisted Or at least I hoped so. Jackson didn’t look convinced, but he dropped it. The game resumed, loud and chaotic, but my focus wasn’t really there anymore. Every serve, every laugh, every shout blurred at the edges. Because even when I wasn’t looking at him—I could feel him.

He asked nonchalantly and I looked down. “I don’t have any experience in this stuff. I might have stopped when she apologized to me but no… you ignited the fire by this game.” I mumbled, personally not liking where this was all going because I knew the effect would make her suffer. “Wanna concord?” He smirked, pinching me. I didn’t want to lose to him either. “Surely not.” I smirked back, getting down. “I asked Georgia about it.” “That bitch, hmm? I bet she must have told you to do something horrible.” He chuckled, not paying heed to it.

“Now that the queen has officially turned twenty-five, it’s time to play a game!” I groaned immediately. “Oh no. No games, Sandra. The last time we played one, I ended up kissing that creepy waiter at the bar.” Amara burst out laughing. “And he still follows her on I*******m till today!” “Exactly!” I said, pointing accusingly. “That’s why we’re not doing this.” But they were already ignoring me. Joyce clapped her hands together. “Truth or dare!” A chorus of cheers filled the room. Sandra smirked and handed me a half-filled shot glass. “Rules are simple… if you refuse a truth or dare, you drink. And no chickening out.”

He yanked his hand away and tried to turn. I said lazily, with a cold edge, “If you try to run, don’t ever think about walking out this door again.” He hesitated. I stepped behind him and wrapped my arms around him. My fingertips traced his chest and felt the muscles tighten, like touching a sword ready to be drawn. “Leon, let’s play a game.” He closed his eyes hard. When he opened them, they were darker and dangerous. “Play what?” I tilted my head and smiled, a vicious light in my eyes.

Susie answered her and Jennifer moved toward his room's direction after nodding at her. "Such a lovely girl she is, one day, I will make her my daughter-in-law!" Susie told herself happily, not knowing that she was already someone's daughter-in-law. Meanwhile, Jennifer went to his room and found Tyler and his younger brother, Aaron playing games on their computer. "Hi! Tyler!" She greeted him, sitting down beside him. "And Hi, my dear munchkin!" She told Aaron while pulling his chubby cheeks. "You here? I thought you must be busy with your husband!" His tone held some kind of mockery that didn't go unnoticed by her.

“And I’d hate for everyone to find out about your illegal fights. And about the little gold you left me, you must have been in quite a rush, weren’t you?” The corner of his mouth twitches, but he doesn’t respond. Instead, he straightens and moves on to the next girl, his smile still firmly in place. To anyone watching, he’s the picture of composure, but I see the tightness in his jaw, the subtle clench of his fists. I release a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding. My hands are clammy, my pulse erratic. The officials enter the room, their voices carrying over the crowd. “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to commence the games.”

I feel pity for the big guy. Right now, Roman and I are in a stand-off against his cousins Menandro and Lara in a game called Sapo. It meant Choke the Frog, but without an actual frog. A figurine frog sat on top of an erected log in the middle of the garden. Each team has ten gold coins and all we have to do is aim for the frog’s mouth, choke the figurine. It was easier said than done. Each team hasn’t been able to choke the freaking open-mouthed frog yet. We only have four coins left for each team. Menandro missed another shoot. Lara’s aim was no good as well.
