I tried to stop laughing. I really did. I pressed my lips together and looked away for a second, but something about the way he said it , so calm, so sure, like he’d just stated the weather made it impossible. “I don’t understand why you’re laughing,” he said, watching me now with that serious look that wasn’t helping at all.

It wasn't that the joke was particularly funny, but the contrast between his serious expression and the lighthearted nature of the joke was just too much for me to handle.

So, just like they greeted me, they also greeted him. I glanced at Zenith and saw a serious expression on his face. It almost made me laugh. “Why are you like this?” I asked, amused. He looked way too serious. “Well, I have to keep a straight face around the staff, or they’ll think I’m someone to joke with,” he said with a sneer. I understood what he meant. I was used to seeing Zenith act like this in public. Still, today his serious face looked extra funny. Maybe it was just me, because no one else seemed to find it amusing.
