Épicé, avec un vrai coup de fouet. » Sa paume caressait encore ma taille, mais son regard s'est détourné ailleurs. « Garde-le juste pour toi. Si ma Luna découvre, tout est fini. » Les autres Bêtas ont laissé échapper des rires complices, levant leurs verres dans une promesse silencieuse de garder ce secret. Mais un frisson m'a parcourue, et ma louve intérieure s'est figée, comme si elle était morte. Adrian ne savait pas que j'avais étudié l'Ancienne Langue pour mes recherches sur le traumatisme des loups-garous. J'avais compris chaque mot. J'ai retenu mes larmes, m'étant forcée à paraître impassible, maintenant la contenance attendue d'une Luna. Au lieu de l'affronter, j'ai envoyé un message magiquement protégé au doyen Slone de l'Association des Guérisseurs de Loups-Garous, acceptant l'invitation qu'elle m'avait adressée. Trois jours plus tard, j'ai rejoint un programme sécurisé de réhabilitation pour loups-garous en tant que nouvelle Guérisseuse en Chef et j'ai disparu à jamais du monde d'Adrian.

Doch eine eisige Kälte durchströmte mich, und meine innere Wölfin erstarrte, als wäre sie gestorben. Er wusste nicht, dass ich für meine Forschung zu Werwolf-Traumata die Alte Sprache studiert hatte. Ich verstand jedes einzelne Wort. Ich hielt die Tränen zurück und zwang mich, ungerührt zu wirken, während ich die Fassung bewahrte, die man von einer Luna erwartete. Statt ihn zur Rede zu stellen, sandte ich eine magisch abgeschirmte Nachricht an Älteste Slone von der Vereinigung der Werwolf-Heiler und nahm die Einladung an, die sie mir ausgesprochen hatte. In drei Tagen würde ich mich einem geschützten Werwolf-Rehabilitationsprogramm anschließen – als neue leitende Therapeutin – und für immer aus Adrians Welt verschwinden.
