Please, Kai!” I cry and fumble for my phone in my pocket as I sink into the grass in the park next to campus and hit the number of the first person that comes to mind.

She turns to see a serious look of concern on Kai, something she isn’t used to seeing just yet. “What? What’s wrong?” she asks. Looking around frantically, she sees there is nothing around them except more forestry, but she can feel they are nowhere near the Raseri Tribe territory anymore. Kai suddenly takes her face and wipes her cheeks. Only is it then that she feels her face wet, tears still rolling down her cheeks as they continue to fill up her eyes. “Oh, it must be the water mixed with the wind,” she laughs and wipes her face. “I wasn’t paying attention and probably got something in my eye.”

Malakai wiped at the tears that leaked from his eyes with unhurried movements. "I'm sorry," he said in between laughs, his shoulders jerking. "I'm really sorry...but...that was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard," he said. Maddison tightened her grip on the knife, consumed by a fury so great it made her thoughts grow darker in a span of seconds. "Do you not know where you are, Kai?" She demanded, her voice nearly a growl. He wiped at the tears clinging to his dark lashes, a smile tugging at his lips.

SURVIVORS: 14 Tess burst into tears again. “That number is too small…” Noah looked sick. “There were over thirty…” Kai rolled his neck. “Then they should’ve fought harder.” Lena turned on him. “What is wrong with you?” Kai blinked. Then his grin faded slightly. For the first time— he looked human. Tired. Haunted. “You think I don’t hear the screaming when I close my eyes?” Lena stopped talking. Kai looked away. “I just prefer laughing over breaking.” That shut everyone up.

He sighed. Kai was still crying in his lap. "Kai here, look here." I clapped my hands to gain his attention. He is so busy with his little tantrum that I don't think he even noticed us. "Kai." I called him again and this time, he forced himself to look at me. His chubby cheeks were flushed red, so was the tip of his nose and his eye lashes were completely damp. I could see it even through the screen of the phone.

With this realization, I stand up straighter and clear my throat. From this moment forward, I would do just that. Move forward. "I'm fine, thank you." I swipe under my eyes one more time. "Sorry, I'm not usually a public crier. I don't mean to make you uncomfortable." "Sometimes a girl just needs a good cry before she takes on the world. It's perfectly normal, Kelly."
