The water weighed heavily in my pack, a small comfort against the knowledge that we were being hunted now.
Kade’s men were out there, circling like wolves.
They wouldn’t attack right away, not while they thought they could corner us first.
Ember slowed, her gaze darting to the graffiti on the wall ahead. It was a jagged symbol, a crude drawing of a knife crossing over a sun.
“What’s that?” she asked, her voice low.
“Kade’s mark,” I said. “He’s staked his claim here.”
She frowned, brushing her fingers on the cuff on her wrist.
