Kane did not come back that night, or the day after, or the one after that. The keep did not need to tell me where he was. I said nothing. I packed quietly instead. On the fifth evening, my door opened and Selena walked in as though she belonged there. Kane followed a step behind her. “Tonight is the Moonfire Festival,” she said. “I thought you should come.” Before I answered, Kane said, “You’re coming.” I looked at him. “To do what? Stand beside you while the pack watches you dote on her?”

Darius growled, his voice low and dangerous. "That's the elders' choice," Kane said, speaking for the first time. "What about *your* choice?" Luciano and Darius asked at the same time. Kane sighed heavily, running a hand through his dark hair. "I don't know... I can't go another full moon without my mate. Tyrant is already growing wild. He needs her." "And you need your Luna," Darius said, clasping a strong hand on Kane’s shoulder in quiet support. "What becomes of Elara and Anika if she shows up?" Luciano asked, his tone careful.

To which he leaned forwards and kissed her more deeply. Talon interrupted them when she spit out, “Hey dumb, dumb, you still don’t know his name.” Amara shrieks as she pushes Kane back, “Oh right, no more mister until you tell me your name.” But then she pulls him forward and kisses him lightly on the lips. Kane picked up her legs and pulled them over his lap as he moved further back on the bed. “My name is Kane. Son of Crius.” Talon and Amara stared at one another and then Kane’s mate whooped, “Thank you moon goddess! I got myself a real-life god as a mate.” Kane smiled and rubbed her legs with little circles while she did a little celebration dance in the bed.

“They haven’t trained you in everything. You and your father didn’t know that the Moon Goddess would never allow a pup to be born from a couple that aren’t true mates. No matter how many mates that your father would have forced your way, you will never have a pup. The Moon Goddess will only allow her chosen mates to have pups, unless she has a bigger plan in mind, like in Zee’s situation.” She motions towards Kane. “That is why Luna Kane is currently pregnant with the heir to our pack. Even though his true mate, which was you, and him weren’t allowed to mate. The Moon Goddess has taken mercy on him and gave me a second mate, which is Alpha Wyatt.” Mike frowns and furrows his eyebrows.

It feels like no matter what, I’d be wrong. The morning light was already creeping into the corridors, casting long shadows as I leaned against the railing. From where I stood, I had a clear view of the small hall across the pack house. The maids were in full swing, bustling around like clockwork. Chairs were being arranged, silverware polished, flowers meticulously placed—everything getting prepped for the big day. Yeah. The big day. The one where I, Kane, Alpha of the Pack, will stand in front of everyone and pledge myself to Selena under the next full moon. Because apparently, the universe thought it’d be hilarious to pair me with someone who isn’t Julia.

Apparently, he was dreaming KANE’S DREAM He stood in the middle of a vast silver plain. The sky above him was endless night, stars like frozen tears. Then the Moon Goddess appeared. Not exactly in the form of a woman. She was light and formless. Her voice echoed inside him, not through the air but through his blood. “You fear what she is becoming.” Kane didn’t respond. I said. She seemed lost in thought for a couple of seconds and started to laugh as if I had cracked a joke. "You are really dumb, Selene; they played you well, and I am sure Danica is behind this," she said. "What do you mean by that?" I ask, both confused and angry. "You are so naive, Selene; I am sure Xavier decided the day. It is because they know who you are; they know you are the daughter of the moon, and they even know if something happens to you, the moon goddess herself will come to help you.

The moon goddess must be really smiling above us. After two years of marriage, I became pregnant again. This time I was happy because my mate was with me. We waited for our bungle of joy. Finally, the goddess blessed us with a beautiful daughter. She completed our life.

I told him and he chuckled lightly. “Perhaps.” “Honourable people of Crescent Moon Pack, we present to you the Alpha and Luna of Crescent Moon. Alpha Roman Kane and Luna Manda Cane.” The minute he stepped into the hall, my breath hitched. His powerful aura took over the room and the temperature seemed to drop by a few degrees. My palms suddenly became sweaty as I shivered slightly. He was even more dashing than the last time I remembered. His silver-streaked hair was longer, his facials looked like they were chiseled into shape. Sharp and prominent.

I moved toward the window, desperate to understand why he had left, and then I saw him in the moonlight. Kane was in the clearing behind the cabin, his body shaking violently as if he were having seizures rather than just feeling emotional. Dark veins stood out on his arms and neck, looking like poison spreading through him. When he tilted his head up toward the full moon, I noticed something change about his face. And his eyes—his eyes burned with an otherworldly light that reminded me of every creature I had ever feared in the dark. “Get back inside!” Kane's voice carried across the distance, but it sounded different now—deeper, rougher, almost animalistic.
