"Your clever boyfriend is my stupid bestfriend!" she exclaimed, laughing loudly. Carnation turned to face her fiance, who muttered angrily in response to what Kara had said. 'So she was the best friend. . . I see.' Carnation reflected on herself.

When she looks at Stark, her expression is pure disdain. "The vampire prince," she says, making it sound like an insult. "How wonderful. Another entitled royal slumming it with the peasants."

Kara Thea’s gaze swept over my naked body in desperate admiration, and I felt a rush of vulnerability mixed with heat. “Fuck, Kara,” Adam growled, stepping closer. “You’re so beautiful it's driving me crazy.” Thea touched my hips lightly with her fingers. “She’s perfect, isn’t she?” Her voice was soft, almost reverent, like she was worshipping me.
