“We’ll do everything we can to get her out.” The sound of tools hitting metal filled the room. Sparks flew. Kate covered her mouth, every hit against the safe feeling like it was hitting her chest instead. “Elena!” she cried. “Mummy’s right here!” A faint sob answered her. It nearly destroyed her. Kate’s knees hit the floor before she knew she was falling. Elena sob and cries scared, muffled, panicked, fading. Kate clawed at the metal safe, her palms scraping against its cold surface as though sheer desperation could force it open.

I didn’t know that I would be a sucker for someone else’s perfume. I woke up with a severe headache. I massaged my forehead and opened my eyes. I sat and walked to my kitchen and was surprised when I couldn’t find my own cupboard. Also, I almost hit my head on the wall. What the hell? Did someone renovate my house without me knowing? You're silly, Jane. No one knows where you live, except Roberto. I calmed myself and took deep breaths. "AHHHHHH!" I screamed at the top of my lungs when I figured out that I wasn’t in my own home. It’s a different condo.

I felt everything slow down as I looked at Roberta. She had the most hateful stare that she had ever mustered in her eyes, and she shot it at Charlotte. “How dare you? You’re a fucking psychopath”, Roberta shouted at the top of her voice. I watched her chest heave up and down shakily as tears gathered at the corner of her eye. Her lips began to quiver but she pushed them into her mouth and blinked back her tears. She was trying to be strong for Rome. As if on cue, another hefty man held up a straw sack and opened it gently, revealing our son’s head.

"Madam Walker, she's invited you to ask Ryan yourself. This is her company. You can't make a scene here." Kate shoved the photos back at me. "You think you can just walk in here and take what's not yours?" My hand closed around a cup of coffee without thinking. It was half full and still warm. I tossed the liquid in a smooth arc. It hit Kate's dress and splattered down her collar. She screamed more from shock than pain. Security moved in. Kate cursed, red-faced, and kept trying to fight. They gripped her firmly. She fought like someone used to getting her way.

Serena continued. "I didn't ask for you to speak, Serena." Catherine replied firmly. "Okay...sorry. But seriously. Are you okay? What happened to being cool and composed?" Serena asked worriedly. Rachel let out a bitter chuckle. "Why would I be calm when we're about to die? This is literally my dream come true. I'm actually experiencing my first experience of real life horror movies. I'm scared. There is no other way to put it. I'm terrified." Catherine explained.

I asked. She swallowed. “Two cars pulled in front of Scott’s truck and he lost control, the truck rolled on its side. They got out, some shifted into wolves, the rest smashed the windshield and dragged Scott out. They started beating him. That’s all I saw.” “Was it light or dark? Did anything fall from the back of the truck? Did anyone else show up to fight?” I pressed. “I don’t know that’s all I saw!” Kate’s voice cracked with frustration. “He touched my skin on purpose.”

I pause to breath before heading straight through the doors to stop at the sleek reception desk in the lobby. “How can I help you?” Asked the skinny blonde behind the desk. This woman screams prime and put together. Her scowl also screams get out while her narrowed eyes scrutinize my pants. What else could I expect from a receptionist working in this job, though? “Hi, I am Katherine Douglas. I’m here for a scheduled interview with Mr. Romano.” I keep my voice steady and respectful. Her eyes flick over me again, and then she is shuffling around some papers, reading little notes in blue and red ink. He must be a busy man.

Khalid said walking into the bathroom but notice Kate Wasn't even listening.

She looked down at him, her eyes wide and dark in the dim light. “I can’t sleep,” she whispered, the words catching in her throat. “I keep seeing her face, Roberts. Not the CEO, Karen, but that predatory look she had when she was talking to Rahul. She looks… satisfied. Like she just swallowed the entire deal whole, and we’re the bones she’s spitting out.”
