Jesse kept mum, his lips pressed into a thin line as he thought and contemplated hard. "What if she shows up on you again? Are you like- still going to see her?" She pried, asking him an honest question. The real question. He looked up at Charlie, having struck a realization. K was karma, K was danger, K was seduction personified. He was willing to risk it all.

“You can tell me what you want, and I’ll let them know to add it to the list.” Still taking it all in, I blink. “This… isn’t a big deal?” Twisting the cap off her water, she shrugs. “Not really. It’s just a place to read or whatever. I have to go now.” Sienna leaves after a hug, leaving the water on the table. I dump my backpack beside it, settling onto the chair. After bringing out my books, I tuck the bag at my feet and flip a textbook open. Before I can start reading, movement catches my eye. A figure steps out from behind one of the far shelves, his footsteps soft but deliberate. Kade’s eyes narrow when they land on me, and he shuts the book dangling from his hand.

“For what? For you stalking my every move? For my father treating me like a damn asset instead of a daughter?” His jaw tightened, but before he could answer, Kade sauntered in, a mug of coffee in one hand, his dark hair still damp from a shower. He wore a black T-shirt that clung to his lean frame, tattoos snaking down his arms like a story I wanted to read. His grin was all trouble, and it sparked something reckless in me. “Morning, princess,” he said, leaning against the kitchen counter. “You look like you’re ready to burn this place down. Need a match?”

LAMIA Ten minutes later, the four of us, I had grabbed Kira on the way, sat in my room. Mike and Kel were looking a little more than awkward. I assumed they thought we were going to have a “talk” about what happened Friday night. “Here,” I said and tossed the old leather book to Kellen who was propped on the end of my bed, “Turn to page 123. And read it out loud so everyone can hear.” He flipped the pages until he came to the right one and then began to read aloud the same passage I had read. There was an eerie silence in the room when he had finished until Mike broke it.

It was Kade's ultimate cruelty. 1625

“I want to see where this goes. I’m not asking for an answer right now. Think about it. Whatever you choose, I’ll respect it.” The air felt heavier suddenly. I broke it the only way I knew how. “Well, good to know you like me even with my world-class terrible guessing skills.” Kelvin snorted, but his eyes lingered on me, earnest beneath the laughter. We said goodnight with easy smiles, but his words stayed lodged somewhere in my chest. --- Cade’s place felt different the next morning the second I stepped inside. The living room was empty. The usual water glass on the table was gone. No “gratitude time” setup, no TV murmuring highlights he claimed not to watch.

“This is where I- we come almost every lunch time.” Instead of asking the obvious question, he said, “I’m going to sit with you then.” She opened her mouth to launch her objection and Keion raised his hands quickly, “Just for today.” Ceanna pressed her lips together and shrugged again. Taking that as a win, Keion took out his notebook and opened the book he was going to check out. She looked curiously at him. “What are you reading?” “A book by your dad, actually.” “My dad?” “Yeah, it’s about his time in Africa.”

"I'm dating Kade. And if Warren wants to stop me, he can come down here and do it himself." Kolt stared at me for a beat. Then, he laughed. It was a genuine, dark sound. He shook his head, looking almost impressed. "You've got claws, Lynch. I like that." He walked toward the automatic doors, jerking his head for me to follow. "Come on." I hesitated. "You're helping me?" "Kade is spiraling," Kolt said, his voice dropping the amusement. "He threw a food tray at a nurse an hour ago. He's refusing pain meds because he thinks it makes him foggy. He's acting like a caged animal."

It felt wrong so damn wrong, not intense, not overwhelming…just fucking wrong. That moment, Kade went completely still, and that scared me more than the pain did, because he never freezes unless something serious is happening. His head turned slowly toward the forest beyond the pack borders, and I looked at his face…I wish I hadn’t. I have seen him angry, i have seen him cold. I have seen him controlled, calculating and terrifying in a quiet way, but this was different. This wasn’t anger, it was something older, something instinctive. A low sound rumbled out of his chest, not loud, but deep, the kind of sound you don’t just hear but feel in your bones.

Kendra sat in the library with the book, The Hobbit, opened on her lap. When Rex had first shown the room that was lined with books to her, she’d been both intimidated and overwhelmed. She was taught to read by Olga, but the availability of reading material was limited. Therefore, her reading skills were wanting.
