"Is that a threat." "It's advice." She set the glass down and crossed the room toward me, close enough that I could smell her perfume, the same one she always wore, suddenly unfamiliar in a way that unsettled me more than I expected. "I love you, Jeremy. I have built a life with you. I would hate to see you tear it apart chasing ghosts." She kissed my cheek and walked toward the bedroom, leaving me standing in the living room with my heart going too fast and a feeling in my chest I recognized, distantly, as fear.

I stopped at a red light and narrowed my eyes at her. "N-no. You know I haven't been with anyone that way since Jordan. I just want to get over him so bad, but I can't. I hate him." She folded her arms, peering out the window. Jordan had been her first love. They were together for two years until he passed away from cancer last year.
