If we are going to die tonight I don't want him to die sad. "Ansel..." I start, turning to him, I grab his arm and pull him over to me. He stops and looks at my hand on his arm, I can feel the sparks that come whenever I touch his skin. He gives me his full attention, and knowing we may only have moments before the enemy attacks. "I am so sorry love." I say, then I lean in and kiss him, full on the mouth. Ansel brings his hands up to my hips, his fingers dig into me as he moans into the kiss.

I barely made it to the corner before vomiting, shaking uncontrollably. The taste of bile burned my throat. My whole body convulsed with grief, horror, self-loathing. I killed her. I pressed a trembling hand over my mouth, muffling the sobs. I couldn’t think. Couldn’t breathe. My clothes—where were they? I forced myself to move—staggering, grabbing the scattered pieces. Shoving trembling legs into pants, pulling my sweatshirt over shaking shoulders. I glanced once more at Sophie. Her perfect body. Her empty eyes.

He brought my face close to his. “I love you, Novel Hart. Even if you were to stab me in the heart, I would die with a smile knowing it was you who killed me. Be the ruler of my world, Novel. Please be mine, so I can be yours.” The pain was still there, but a flicker of happiness ignited at his words. I nodded, and he pulled me into a hug so tight I could feel his heart. “I will never let you down, Novel. Thank you for letting me love you.”
