I slept, ate, and read the books I have brought from the library. As ordered by the king, Lillian takes me to the library every week. She doesn’t speak to me much. She stays with me no matter how much time I spend there. Whenever I go there, I bring lots of books. I put those books back that I don’t like or have read.

Melinda's and Kieran's sharp, piercing eyes, scanned the endless rows of books. Zora led them around the library, pointing out the different sections and genres. There were books on philosophy, science, art, and history, each one meticulously cataloged and arranged on the shelves. The titles were written in elegant calligraphy, and the bindings were richly adorned with gold leaf and embossed lettering. Kieran and Melinda were overwhelmed by the sheer size of the collection, and they couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the sheer amount of knowledge that was contained within these walls.

Then a boisterous laugh filled the room. Irina pouted. Coughing, Nieal tried to stop the laugh. He coughed few times before he could speak again. “I’m sorry.” He said. “But, books for sale?” He chuckled. “Not in my town, glassy.” Still pouting, Irina didn’t say a word. That made Nieal coughed again to cover his laugh. “You know I will never allow that, right? Everyone in this town have free access to the books that they wanted to read—” He paused a second. Then emphasized. “—in the library.”

The problems that arose were a test of their genuine love. Emily's main goal was to visit her favorite bookstore, buying novels from some of her favorite authors to add to her personal collection. Even though there were now many e-book reading apps available, Emily didn't feel satisfied unless she had the physical copies of the books. Reading e-books was far more flexible, as she could read them anywhere without the hassle of carrying physical books.

Oh, she got you this,” Maddie runs into the living room and picks up a small black device. It’s about 3x the size of a phone and Maddie runs back over to me. “It’s a kindle. She said you have an unlimited account now so you can read whatever you want to. And it’s already connected to the library, so you don’t have to go there to check out digital books. Her father could take a look at the girl in the morning. I looked down at the girl as she snuggled into my warmth. I couldn't believe how relieved I was that she was breathing. Sara knelt beside us. She gasped when she saw the girl but I shot her a warning look. She needed to keep her mouth shut and work. Sara brought out a bottle of colorless liquid from the bag she was carrying. She must have ridden on Aaron's back. "Do you have a blanket?" I asked softly. "No. But Aaron is wearing a cloak," Sara spoke softly, pouring the liquid down the girl's throat.

Looked over Elena's shoulder at the freshly printed page. "The local electrical co-op just finished the line for the cabins, " Julian said. His voice was easy to hear over the sound of the press. "Marcus sent over receipts from the New England bookstore cooperative. The winter catalog sold out. The shops are making their lending libraries to keep the Nora Vale books in circulation." Elena picked up a tool to smooth out a crease. "They treat the books like community assets. Not like digital files. When companies controlled the books a story only existed long as you stayed subscribed.. With a real book you can't just delete it."
