She had no care for anything, not even death itself. But betrayal...it was something she detested. She gave the man a straight face. "It seems like you won over me. You have me by your palms now." The man smirked nonchalantly. "Your death is not gonna be an easy one, Kira Blanco. Start saying goodbye to your world and your reign. To everything you hold dearly, hell no one is even gonna miss you." Kira gave him the exact same expression even though deep down, she was scared. She's just twenty-five after all and no matter how she tells herself she isn't scared, it doesn't mean she wants her death to be gruesome.

She had accepted that story and put it behind her. But Harper was looking at her like she knew something Kayla did not. “Kira didn’t just see what happened,” Harper said, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Kira is what happened. She killed Caroline. Not rogue werewolves or vampires. Your perfect, selfless twin is the reason my sister is dead.” Kayla felt her world tilt at Harper’s bold statement. “That’s a lie.”

Foreboding. Kira turned away from the computer screen with a shudder. “This wasn’t a gift,” she whispered. "This may not be over.” Ryker clenched his fists. “Find out everything you can about Bram’s last 48 hours. Anyone he called. Anyone he met with. Any stranger who entered the place where the vials came from.” Cline nodded and rushed out. The dead man wasn’t the problem anymore. Whoever killed him was. “But whoever undid it used magic,” Kira whispered.

~Lyra's POV~ Kira was the one who named it. She crossed the compound with her hand still pressed to her side and crouched down beside Xavier and looked at Cara, at the gold eyes, at the closing wound, at the quality of a twelve-year-old who had died twelve minutes ago and was now looking around the compound with the composed attention she brought to everything. "She was already undergoing her first transformation when she died," Kira said. She said it the way she said things she was certain of, flat, precise, no inflation around the edges. Not dramatic. Just the accurate sentence.

When I looked at the surrounding area, I realized I was in a cemetery. There were a few other people in front of Alexander. They murmured, “Poor girl. Kira has always been too adventurous for her own good.” “Her death is tragic. Rumor has it she was raped and beat up by a nobleman’s son who paid a lot to keep the news from the public,” a woman chuckled then continued to whisper, “She should’ve just surrendered to him and close her eyes instead of fighting all the way.”

The thought of going back home, walking through the hallways, and being forced to see her annoying face every single day would absolutely drive me into a deep, dark depression. Shaking the thoughts from my head, I grabbed the heavy fabric of the priestess’s white dress and dragged her lifeless body across the floor. I walked over to Elda's slumped form, grabbing her collar and dragging her along too. I pulled the two women outside into the cold night air, dumping them right on top of each other in a messy pile on the grass because I wanted to burn their bodies last. I wanted to look them in the eyes and be absolutely sure these two fools were dead before I walked away.

I screamed at them, trying to mind message Jeremy to send assistance. "Say that again and watch what happens," Marianna said, but Kira held her back from fighting with me. Before she could say another word, a long knife protruded out of her belly, and she dropped dead. Kira turned back and screamed on top of her voice when she saw Jeremy. He came down himself to get things done since feedback hadn't come in for hours now. "What are you doing with my love?" Jeremy asked as Kira went on her knees, pleading to be saved.

“I’m just glad it was me. Nothing he could take from me or give to me in a chance exchange can mess with me now, can it?” Her pink eyes twinkled, tinted gold behind their lenses. “Goddess, can I take these out now? It’s just us.” I nodded, admiring Kira in her own right. Fighting her own battles, taking on more. I didn’t think she had been sorber when she had mind linked with me in the arena. Maybe she hadn’t been. “How did it end?” I asked. “I slashed his femoral.” Kira said calmly to the wall, still bent over.

“God, Dylan, could you be any more pathetic?” “Fuck, Kira… what do you want from me? I already apologized! I told you I love you. Isn’t that what you always wanted?” Wasn’t it? I laughed… slowly, coldly… keeping my face blank. “You must be mixing me up with the girl you used to mock. The one you rejected over and over again in front of everyone. She’s dead. Buried. Burned to ash.” I stepped closer… not too close, just enough to watch his delusion crack.

She pressed her palm to the floor, gathering all her strength to stand again, but she could barely even move. “Still trying to run?” one of the men asked with a cocky smile, and Kira felt her body crashing down to the floor. “Let’s get this done. We can’t afford to get seen,” the other guy said sharply, and the first guy nodded in acknowledgement. Kira’s heart sank into her stomach, but she just remained there on the floor, getting wet from the rain in ways her boyfriend could never actually do. The tears that slipped down her face mixed with the rain. So this was it? This was how she was going to die? By the hand of the man who probably killed her father.
