Before I became something he could own. I looked away. "Then why should I care?" The man stepped closer. "Because the bodies were found with the same symbol." My eyes returned to his. "What symbol?" He hesitated. Then reached into his coat. My body immediately tensed. He slowly pulled out his phone. He held it toward me. "Look." I didn't want to. Every instinct screamed at me not to. But curiosity was stronger. I stepped forward. The screen showed a photograph. A symbol carved into wood. A circle. Three lines crossing through it. And beneath it, a crescent moon.

They belonged to Kaliq’s men that were trying to capture me and drag me back into that smelly cage that night. And… and then, I think I remember— “She is awake, Alpha.” The voice makes my eyes fly open. It is deep. Male. And just outside my cell. Right then, something shiny catches my eyes on one of the iron bars. I squint at it. My heart sinks. It is a symbol of a crescent moon crossed by three claw marks. I know that symbol! Everyone knows it! It is the pack symbol that only belongs to the BloodHounds Pack!

"Alright... what am I supposed to get?" Conor’s grin stretched wide. "That's my girl." He flipped open the old, worn-out book in front of us, turning the pages until he stopped at a symbol etched in thick, black ink. It was a large, dark ring with two triangles meeting at the top in a straight line. Inside the circle, two more triangles—sharp, like a wolf's canines—flanked either side of the line. The image stirred something in me. It felt oddly familiar.

There was no sign of us. We were gone. Truly gone, this time. But as the men gathered their wits and prepared to clear the wood, one of them, the youngest, knelt by the stump. He placed his hand on the clean, cut wood. It was warm. And carved into the surface of the stump, as if it had grown there over a hundred years, was a perfect, intricate symbol. It wasn't the sigil of Cresendo or the mark of the Serpent's Tail. It was a new symbol. A single, continuous line that wove together the shape of a willow leaf and the curve of a mountain peak, forever intertwined.

It was like a galaxy of stars, glitter, and beautiful colours. It was the kind of picture that would make someone calm and happy. It was the type of picture someone could marvel at for hours. It was the kind of picture that someone would smile at. But not me. It was the same picture that I have been forced to look at thousands of times throughout my life. Zara asked. Rynese carefully unrolled it while everyone gathered around him, the parchment was old and crusty. The northern territories stretched across it in faded ink, some locations were marked on it and notes were written at the edges. A symbol stood out immediately, it was a crescent moon wrapped around a blade.The same symbol they'd seen before. Zara pointed at it. "What does that mean?" Nobody said anything then she looked up. Valkyrie had gone completely still, the colour had drained from her face.

"What about the symbol?" Everyone went still. "What symbol?" Connor asked carefully. "There has to be one. Every coordinated attack leaves a signature. Every massacre has a mark." I thought of Cassandra's journal, those seven X marks on the map. "What did they leave at the Moonblood sites?" Maya and Connor exchanged a look I couldn't read. "Tell me." Connor pulled out his phone, scrolled through old photos, then held it out. The image was grainy, faded, but I could make out a symbol burned into wood. Three interlocking circles with a crescent moon at the center, crossed through with what looked like claw marks.

“Boss! Over here.” I walked over to where he stood. A single dagger was embedded in a wooden crate, left there deliberately, of course. The handle bore a strange symbol, a weeping snake, fangs bared, tears dripping from its eyes. I pulled the blade free, turning it over in my gloved hand. “Recognize this?” I asked, holding it up for the others to see. They shook their heads. “Never seen it before, boss,” one replied. I stared at the symbol, anger simmering beneath my skin.

I followed her gaze at the floor and confusion built up in my mind. There was a symbol drawn out of blood. It was a diamond with two triangles at the side of the diamond denoting as if the diamond was glowing. I crouched down to inspect the symbol closely. "That is the symbol of our academy." I heard Eleanor's whisper. I scrunched my eyebrows together while thinking. What on earth did that meant? It was time for me to make my mind run on the wheels of intelligence. "You sure about that?" I asked. "Yes." She said.

"Names, locations, anything that might tell us where they're holding her now." Jonah nodded, pulling out one final folder, thinner than the others, marked with a symbol Elena didn't recognize — a stylized eye inside a circle, drawn in careful ink. "This is as far as I ever got. A symbol that showed up at three different scenes over the years, always connected to unexplained deaths or disappearances near supernatural communities. I never found out what it meant, or who used it. Just that it kept appearing." Rowan's face went suddenly pale, staring at the symbol.
