“You were unconscious for three weeks and you’re still talking too much.” Lance smiled a little wider. “Yeah… I’m definitely alive then.” He looked down at his burned arm again, his expression quieter this time. But he didn’t complain. He didn’t ask why. He just looked at the scars for a long time, then finally looked back at Ragnar. “Did we win?” he asked. Ragnar nodded once. “Yes.” Lance relaxed back into the pillow fully after hearing that. “Good,” he said softly. “Then it was worth it.”

Lance exclaimed excitedly after taking his oath. “Willa, I couldn’t choose how I was born, but I hope I can choose how I die. I don’t want to die of old age or sickness—I want to die fighting against criminals!” Lance had vowed after his parents’ divorce, thumping his chest. However, the heart within his chest had now stopped beating. Lance stayed true to his words. He never betrayed the Law Enforcement. He didn’t retreat in the face of the most ruthless of criminals. He used the last of his strength to pull the trigger, even after his heart was shattered.

I nervously giggled. As we watch, the hours go by and wolves are seen guarding the perimeter. I look at one screen and notice those bright silver eyes, the same silver eyes that I had caught watching me shower from in my backyard. Those eyes belong to a bigger wolf than the others.
