She looked pathetic, a small, huddled figure under the harsh glare of the midday sun, her hands bound and her hair matted.
"Listen to me," I called out, my voice carrying to the furthest corners of the stone walls. "We live by a code of loyalty. We protect our own. But a rot has entered this house."
I paused, letting the words sink in, letting the weight of the moment press down on their shoulders.
"Maya," I said, pointing a finger down at the girl who had once shared our meals, "tried to poison my mate. She tried to take the life of the woman who has served this pack with nothing but grace."
