“Wonder what kind of trouble we’re in for, huh?” I breathe a fake laugh and nod my head as Delia makes her way over to me. She hands me an outfit out of her bag before walking back to where Gray is standing just out of view. Staying behind the tree, I quickly tug on the jeans and dark t-shirt, clumsily falling against the trunk three times as I do. When I’m done, I come out from behind the tree and make my way over to them.

"Shelly over there is a little. And Jade, beside her, is a slave. I'm sure you can tell which is which." Scott followed his gaze. One of the women, Shelly presumably, wore a pink baby doll nighty, her blonde hair tied in pigtails. Jade, on the other hand, her jet-black hair cut severely, was dressed in a black beaded bustier with spaghetti straps and a matching black thong.

ANGELA’S POV The final hours before departure were controlled chaos. I stood in my room, not facing a mirror but the bed, where a decision waited. On one side lay polished leather armor, the official battle dress of a Shadow Moon Luna. On the other, a gown of deep charcoal gray, severe and restrained, worn for pack judgments when bloodshed was not yet inevitable. “The armor says you expect a fight,” Gamma Rylan said, arms folded. “The gown says you are presiding over one.”

Only the six remaining candidates were sitting on stage in their most comfortable clothes. She wasn’t wearing any fancy dress just like one of the candidates from the Black Blood Pack of the East. Her simple black V-neck shirt was paired with faded light blue denim pants and a pair of black and white high cut sneakers. Shahara protested to get more presentable, but she didn’t oblige. They were asked to wear their most comfortable clothes, and this was the best way to fit in that word. Her eyes went towards the one sitting beside her – no other than the heiress of the Darkwoods, Leah Darkwood.

She was born to be mine, and no one will take that. I snap my fingers, and soon the shadow spawn appear, their sweet smiles as always, showing they’re happy to serve. “Bring clothes for me to choose from.” I give the order, and they leave. In seconds, they return with a chest full of clothes. I look at each one until I see the perfect dress. I smile imagining her in it. I snap my fingers, and the shadow spawn disappear.

I bite out. I can feel the Hunter holding back his laughter. “To be fair, they are nice tits.” I growl at him, but my skin develops gooseflesh at the thought of him looking at me that way. “Clothes!” “Of course, my lady,” Gwyn ap Nudd says from behind me. With a wave of his hand and some odd flicking of his fingers, I’m clothed in shadows. I mean literal shadows. It’s a long, flowing gown, sleeveless and down to my feet. Slits down the sides so that my knees and the lower half of my legs are visible.

“Try another one.” I stared at him. Two full seconds. “You look like a librarian,” he said. “I like librarians,” I muttered. “Yes, I know,” he said, shaking his head. “Next outfit.” I walked back into the dressing room muttering under my breath. Sky giggled. Mate is rude. Outfit #2 Sharon handed me something black this time. Long. Flowy. Dramatic. Five minutes later I stepped out again. The outfit looked… mysterious. Dark sleeves.

Ruby mumbled as she thought inwardly ‘I did… but that was when I was going in on my own…not with General’. “Come with us.” The ladies bossily pulled Ruby to the side room. “See if you like any.” Ruby looked through the dresses. She really liked the black gown, but she wasn’t sure if it was too bold and whether Shadow would despise her. “You should dress for yourself.” Lara smiled as she saw through Ruby’s thoughts and stuffed the black gown in her hand. “I hope you don’t mind that I had tried it earlier.” Dana blushed as she remembered the restricted images from this morning.

From the other bed, Shiela’s voice came in a chuckling murmur. “Well look who took the light. The Mother of shadows. Snuffing the light out with her Magic.” Her tone was light and amused. She did it jokingly, but it didn’t come as a joke entirely to Laura. Laura didn’t let it show, she let it go. Using her wolf enhanced vision, her gaze shifted to a pale gold as she scanned for her clothes. She moved silently through the rooms, grabbing her towel and a change of clothes. “I’m off to bathe. Make sure you don’t fall asleep. The Mother of Shadows has to bid you goodnight.”

She wasn’t the one. “Next?” I barked at them. Next came Lady Seraphina of the ShadowBrooke Pack. Her dress, a flowing gown of gold, seemed to catch every beam of light in the room. I couldn’t help but notice her poise, but there was something lacking. Again, I shook my head. “Not my style.” Lady Ilyana from the Crescent Vale Pack was the third to be introduced. Her gown was a brilliant sapphire blue and she wasn't an ugly person, but not enough to move me.
