Right around that time, Charlie stirred, cracking one eye open. A smile slowly crossed his lips. "Good morning, mommy." He sat up, making grabby hand gestures at her. Chuckling softly, Bellatrix approached his bed and placed a kiss on his forehead. "How are you feeling, Lee baby?" The child nodded vigorously, his eyes shimmering with excitement and his next words confirmed it. "Charlie's feeling good. Today is the day daddy's going to come!" Bellatrix's heart warmed, yet a bitter taste remained in her mouth.

For a long time, both were mutual friends of Ravine yet neither paid much attention to each other. But since recent times, they were hanging out with each other a lot often and had the pulse for understanding each other wordlessly. It felt magical to be with Gerroto, Charlie felt. What a drama king. In the kitchen, I plate pizza for everyone and cut Charlie's own into tiny triangles because he likes his food broken sometimes. Then orange juice for him and soda for the adults. "Charlie!" I call toward the hallway. "Spidey is starting!" His footsteps thunder down the hallway instantly. He skids into the living room and jumps onto the couch, bouncing twice before settling. His face is still blotchy from crying, but his eyes are fixed on the television like nothing happened. I sit beside him and hand him his plate. "The purple sun was beautiful, by the way."

"Charlie. My name is Charlie." Lena considered this. "That's a boy's name. I'm not allowed to talk to boys I don't know." "That sounds like a wise rule," Charlie said. Lena reached out. Charlie handed her the ball. Their fingers touched for a second. He was looking at her face now, his eyes narrowed, searching. Lena took the ball and frowned. It wasn't a child’s pout. It was a specific pull of the muscles, a downward tug at the corner of the mouth that was purely, genetically Sinclair.

No wonder it’s running smooth—all three of them are on it. “Need a hand with anything?” I call, leaning on the doorframe with a grin. They whip round like I’ve just announced free cake. Amelia practically launches herself at me, squeezing me so tight I laugh. “We’ve missed you so much, Charlie!!” she squeals. Guess I was wrong about them wantin’ rid of me. I shouldn’t jump to conclusions like that. “Seems you lot are doing fine without me,” I tease. “Doing fine? We’re dying, Lottie!” Dean shrieks, nearly dropping the milk jug. “I can’t believe people are this thirsty for coffee.”

I just made them, though, so they’re—” Charlie was already stuffing one into her mouth and moaning in delight. “Hot,” I finished lamely. “Oh God. Good,” she told me, holding up a thumb in appreciation as her cheek bulged with how much she’d just stuffed into her mouth.
