I feel him stiffen, feel his unease. “I didn’t believe them at first,” he answers, his lips pressed to the top of my head. “I ignored them, thinking that the rumors about you wanting the luna queen position were false, and then I got my rut a few months later.” He groans, grinding his hips into me, making me shudder and suppress a moan. I felt very bad for him, “I know about your sexual relationship.” He said, turning to face me with a smile that made me weak.

But this man was not planning to leave me be. “Come on. Can you give me an answer?” he said as he walked to my left. “We’re not. She’s just my classmate,” I told him so he would leave. But I thought wrong. “Let’s be together then. I like you, Levi.” What he said really shocked me. “Are you forgetting vampire and werewolf should not associate with each other?” I told him. “No one will know we’re together.” “Look for someone else. Levi slips a hand through his hair. “You’re a fast learner, Purrey.” If he keeps looking at me that way, I’d rip my clothes off. “Thank you. We had a deal - give me one pillow.” He tries to grin but fails woefully. Levi takes one of the pillows, rubs his hair and face all over it, then hands it to me. “Why’d you do that?” I ask, my voice dripping with disgust I don’t actually feel. “So you’d dream of me.”

Levi kept going—voice steady, but quieter now, almost careful. “I think about you when I’m working late. When I’m running. When I’m trying to sleep and failing. I think about the way you laugh—loud, unapologetic, like you don’t care who hears. The way you stand up for Jamie like he’s your blood. The way you look at me like you’re daring me to be better than I’ve been.” Avery swallowed hard—throat tight. Levi’s eyes never left hers. “I don’t know what this is,” he said. “But I know I want more of it. More than just nights. More than just secrets. More than just pretending we don’t feel something.”

Piper’s heart squeezed in her chest. Levi immediately felt guilty. He didn’t mean it like that. He cares for Piper and Benji and doesn’t want them in danger. Piper has been exposed as Kai Faith Bianchi’s bodyguard. She will be at risk. Levi just wants them both to be safe. “No,” He quickly shook his head. “That’s not what I meant, Piper. I wish I was remotely as good as you to my sister, like you are to your brother.” Levi lowered his gaze, “Maybe things would have been different then.” He added gloomily.
