Thorne's POV He left the light on. He never does that. The prey dorms are dim by default—soft, low lights that don’t burn the eyes, all part of the "comfort design." But his lamp is on. Still on. Casting a thin, syrupy gold glow over his desk, the floor, the foot of his bed. I don’t know if it’s a mistake. Or if he’s scared. Or if, somehow, somewhere deep down, he wanted me to see him like this.

He opened the book and then nothing happened. And then, the moment of truth arrived. The librarian flipped over to the next page, and a bright light burst forth, illuminating the library. “Yes!” I said excitedly as I watched from behind the doors. The air was filled with a still energy and the books on the shelves seemed to stir, as if awakening from a long slumber. I was Afraid the manor would awaken but I had to put faith in my capacity. As the light faded, the librarian remained motionless. Apparently trapped in my spell. Didn't take long for gravity to take over and his head was fast asleep on the table.

"Come here now." Did anything touch this man at all? I couldn't care less. Annoyed, I pounded the backpack in front of his chest and hoped that at least a bit of it had gone away, but he simply put it on the floor at his feet and pulled two flashlights from his side pockets. A large one that you could use to break in the skull of a prole in an emergency and a small one that would only have been more girlish if it were pink instead of black. Still, I took it. Little light was better than no light at all.

It seemed he knew something when Noah said the word “Starlight” On the other hand, Lux was trying to calm down and took a deep breath. The blonde-haired girl had a faint smile on her face, “Huft … looks like I have to use that. Like it or not, I have to do it in an emergency like this. In fact, I really don't want to use it because the side effects are quite troublesome.” Lux who showed a calm expression and she suddenly smiled faintly, it made the man who attacked her feel that something was strange.

The lightest moment in a story that had contained almost no light at all. I noticed the book on his nightstand the following week. Not a pregnancy book. Not a business strategy guide. Not any of the texts I'd seen him read during our time together. A different kind of book. The title was something about understanding patterns and breaking cycles. The kind of book that therapists recommend to clients who are ready to examine the machinery that produced them.

CHAPTER 139 — WHEN THE LIGHTS GOES OUT MAYA’S POV By the time I got home, I swear my soul felt like it had been wrung out, twisted, and hung up to dry under fluorescent light. The city outside the mansion window glowed like molten gold — rich, sleepless, full of life — but all I wanted was silence.

“We should probably look over those quarterly reports we were supposed to discuss.” It was a flimsy pretext, and we both knew it. But I clung to it, grateful for the distraction. “Right. The reports.” I sat in a leather chair opposite the desk, trying to focus as he booted up his laptop. The room was impeccably tidy, everything in its place. It was a room that screamed control, a stark contrast to the chaotic emotions of the last ten minutes. Then, the lights flickered. Once, twice, and then they died completely, plunging the room into darkness. The only light came from the dying embers in the fireplace and the sudden, stark flash of lightning outside the large windows.

I finished my food in silence and when I was done, I picked up the book, hoping to read a few more chapters before I will retire for the day. I did read a few chapters but I ended finishing the whole book one and when I was getting ready to read the book two, the light was entirely shut down and I couldn’t even see a fly in the door. The windows were already shut from the outside by someone I had no idea of and now the lights went out. I knew I had no choice than to retire for the night, hoping tomorrow will be a better day and also I will be happy or someone will come for me and find me. An impossible wish but maybe, saying it might make it come true and I will have a chance of leaving this

So I would definitely remember if I was back to having nightmares. I try to blink my eyes to adjust to the darkness but I only see darkness all the lights are off so instead I try to see the time still upset I’m sweating like this and then Shasta’s feet are coming in my face all of a sudden like she can’t feel me or feel herself move. It turned to look at Maya and Willow and I found them preoccupied, which was a good thing for me. Asher led me up a staircase and into a huge bedroom. I looked around and I was beyond wowed.
