Only the Sea Breeze Remembers
He broke down crying, like a child, curling up in the chair and hugging the frame.
I watched him for a long time. Then, I lowered my head and kissed his forehead.
A dead woman’s kiss had no warmth and no sensation.
Yet, he suddenly opened his eyes and looked into the empty air, as if he felt something.
“Wendy?” he asked softly. “Is that you?”
I did not answer.
Souls could not speak.
In the final moment, I saw him reach out into the air, trying to grab hold of something, only to catch the sea breeze.
