I hold my own against his foot. "Here's what's going to happen. I'm going to sit on the highest branch I can climb to, and you can enjoy the comfortable middle section of the tree. Deal?" I ask. I hold my hand out to shake his. He gets his foot off my arms and helps me up the tree. "Deal. Get climbing. And I don't want to talk to you. I'm sitting here until school ends," he barks. "Well, I'm going back at lunch. So, I won't be here long. My name's Lily."

I pee a lot, and smelling and seeing things that are sensitive to my body makes me puke. "Liam, just leave the poor girl alone." Sydney stepped in and pressed those breasts of hers on Liam's arm. "Come on. The book is a room. So we are going to have loads of fun." Loads of fun, indeed. "Just give me a minute," Liam brushed Sydney off, making her pout. "Lily, are you okay?" I scoffed.

"I never knew Ted Lily had such beauty!" "I knew you were going to like this when the idea came to my head. I want to spend time with you, Lillith. I want to show you the lilies Red Lily Pack was culled from. I know today is not enough for all of that but we can start somewhere. What do you think?" She nodded enthusiastically. "I think it's a fantastic idea! I have always wanted to explore but time and chance were against me." He took her hand and squeezed as the carriage came to a halt. Leon pushed the door open and climbed down. He helped Liliith down and they both walked over a bridge that connected to the other side.

"Go, now!" They hesitated for a moment before scrambling to their feet and fleeing down the corridor. Relief flooded me, but it was short-lived. Alex's heart raced as he knelt beside Lily’s still form, her body limp in his arms, the eerie silence surrounding them like a shroud. He could feel the weight of the moment pressing down on him, his mind in turmoil as he tried to make sense of what had just happened. One moment, Lily had been a helpless target, fighting for her life, and the next her eyes had glowed with an otherworldly power, and she had obliterated the rogues before collapsing into his arms.

He thought he was quite intelligent. "I'm afraid I don't follow." He said as she went back to the front desk. "Lily's book is based on the role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons." Her eyes sparkled again. "Just like so many others, she's given us a world to escape to. A heroine tasked to kill a dark sorcerer when, in reality..." the woman stopped, "I can't spoil it for you! You'll just have to read it." She said as she rang him up. Was this how everyone reacted to Lily's book?

“All right. I believe I can handle being a lady’s companion.” “Splendid.” He kissed his daughter’s forehead. “Now that is all settled, I will have only a few soldiers following you during your journey. They will only follow until you cross over to Britain.” Her heart sank. “But…would the soldiers not draw attention to us if they are following?”

Lilian came in front of a cross and she must make a choice about her future. “Okay, I will choose my freedom!” Lilian took the left crossway and it led her to an open place outside of the city. When she saw the light she became excited and ran faster. But what she saw after she was out of the cave. She saw something that astonished her.

I move past them and walk into the living room. Lily is sitting on the floor again. Same spot. Same careful posture. She looks up when she sees me. “Can you help me with this,” she asks, holding up her book. Her voice is soft. Like she’s testing to see my reaction before getting comfortable. “Yeah,” I say. I sit down beside her. She shifts a little closer, turning the page toward me. “I don’t understand this part,” she says. I look at it. Words blur for a second.

But my mind refused to stay quiet. “Almost there,” Elias whispered. He moved like a predator, careful, deliberate, covering every step with precision. We reached the edge of the river just as the first hint of dawn painted the sky in pale orange. The water shimmered faintly, reflecting the early light. Elias set Lily down on the bank, careful not to wake her. She stirred but didn’t open her eyes. “We need to cross,” he said. “There’s a boat a few meters upstream. No one will see us there.”

“Accusations.” “You’ll get questions,” Lily replied honestly. “But not accusations.” Mara glanced at her. “How can you be sure?” “Because if we punish return,” Lily said, “we turn freedom into a trap.” Mara absorbed that in silence. When they reached the edge of Silver Creek territory, Lily stopped. “This is the line,” she said gently. “Crossing it is your choice.” Mara stared at the familiar markers, stones she’d passed a hundred times without thinking. Her hands trembled.
