Lucas screamed.
Emily grabbed his hand and ran.
Behind them, Halloway did not follow.
He simply whispered, “You’ve seen the spiral now. There is no leaving. There is only returning.”

They emerged in a different part of the forest, somewhere deeper, where the trees hung low and heavy with blood-red leaves. The hatch was gone. The clearing was gone.
Only the forest remained.
Lucas collapsed to his knees, shaking. “What the hell is this place? What did we do?”
