I asked. He followed me back to the suite, and between the two of us, we had the new lock installed in no time. I quickly programmed it for my thumbprint, and once I knew it was securely locked, I made my way outside to everyone waiting for me. “What took you so long?” Sage asked as she got cozy under my arm as it draped over her. I didn’t want to ruin the day by telling her what I walked in on, but tomorrow, I would tell her everything unless my dad was an idiot and brought it up tonight at dinner.

“Stop talking.” That’s how I know I’ve struck a nerve and I won’t stop. “You killed her for what? You’re such a two-faced—” A ceramic glass by my side shatters in a second. Instinctively, I throw my hands over my head. A knock sounds at the door. “Lily, are you doing okay in there?” It’s Rachel. She rattles the doorknob trying to get in, all to no avail. “What’s happening? The door is locked from your side.”

I stormed out of his office slamming the door in my wake. I run to my room slamming my door and locking it. Not even 2 seconds latter there was a knock on the door. “Riley let me in” Logan begs on the other side of the door. “No leave me alone”

came Rachael’s voice from the speaker. Richard said, "Oris has returned with a band of people. Brace yourself for what you’ll find when you get home tonight. I’ve locked the door for you." Rachael didn’t overthink it. "Okay," she replied, and he hung up. He waited for her to return from work. When she did, he stopped what he was doing, walked to her door, and unlocked the padlock he had placed there. "Thanks," Rachael said as she stepped inside.

The tension inside that room was a time bomb with the clock at zero. I didn't think twice. We have to leave right now!” I shouted, ignoring the woman's murderous gaze. “It's Ivy! Sarah just activated the pack's red alert!”

Hope came after them, her arm gripped by one of the escorts, and I saw her tug and fail and tug again. Then Vivienne stopped and turned around and said something to Hope. It was not audible from the corridor monitor. I was watching Hope’s face, watching the resistance on it, watching something that Vivienne said land, and I watched as Hope went still. The roof access door opened. I took the stairs. “Was the top door sealed?” Electronic lock, the one that required the building’s own system to unlock it, and the building’s system was in lockdown. Ryker was beside me. His eyes flickered from the door to his bag, making a calculation under three seconds.

The lock clicks. Sealing my fate.
