I ignore him and turn to bar duty. There are cases of beer and pop under the counter. The newly bought hard liquor is lined up against the back wall. There’s a club emblem on that same wall above the bottles. It’s the same one the club members wear on their vests. It’s actually pretty damn cool, but fuck if I tell any of them that. It’s a crow on motorcycle handlebars with two skulls in front. Desert Crows is written on a banner across the top. The design is in a black circle. It looks ominous, which is what the person who designed it was going for.

We’d come down Main Street with the full line — me up front, Tank and Bruno flanking, the rest of the boys spreading out behind like wolves closing in on territory that used to be ours. Then we saw them. The Cobras, parked right across the square in front of Jake’s Bar. Fifteen of them, leather vests gleaming with that new serpent logo Marcus had paraded around like a damn crown. The club once known as the Vipers had shed its skin — and grown fangs. And at the center of it all, Jace. I killed the engine, the sudden silence deafening. The two clubs stared at each other across the empty street — a line drawn, invisible but heavy as concrete.

It was a ‘shit I’m good’ kind of look. Stepping out of the taxi, I looked up at the club’s sign. In fancy italic writing, which was light up in an off-white hue, read ‘The Wild Lounge’. Ooo, I like it, it sounds animalistic. I like animalistic, that’s why I do the job that I do!

Sofia replied still looking around. “Well this was where the Johnson twins had their birthday bash,” Noah said. “Wow”! They got to the entrance of the clubhouse, and they were stopped by two hefty bouncers, who were dressed in black shirts and black pants with black shoes too, they wore a black vest with the name of the club “Glitzy” boldly written on their breast pockets. “Can I see your cards, please?” one of the bouncers asked. The three of them gave him their cards and he swiped the cards on the portable card reader he had with him. The card reader beeped and signaled a green light which meant that it had been authorized.

I had many questions but decided to wait and see, besides there was nothing to be afraid of. Stepping into a room, I sighted about four guys sitting on a couch and staring into the computer. "Valerie, welcome to the losers club." Wesley introduce with a small smile on his face. "Losers club?" My brows furrowed in amusement and I stepped further into the room staring around. "And you're part of it?" "Of course." Wesley replied, plopping down on a small couch. "Hi, I'm Atlas. Welcome to the losers club." One of the guys stepped forward, stretching out his hands for me.

"Damian! Since when do you invite strangers to eat with us? Did you ask me first?" I gave a dismissive shrug. "No thanks. I have things to do." Honestly, I did not know why she still acted so smug. Clara had already filled me in on their situation earlier. Apparently, after I left, both Damian and Waverly had been fired from their jobs for 'improper conduct' and the negative attention their scandal attracted. Since then, Damian had been selling boxed lunches on the street to support their family. Waverly was, as always, a handful. Clara said she fought with Damian every other day and threw full-blown tantrums whenever things did not go her way.

I have had to stick a sign over it which says ‘Do not use’ before one of our staff kill themselves. I also located and had my oval club logo rehung in pride of place after finding it in storage in the basement, and personally took a match to that shitty piece of artwork she had used instead. She stood gawping when my ‘Club Carrero’ sign went back up, all polished and gleaming and signalling my return as Queen of MY club!

But after looking through the questionnaire I realized how wrong I was, there were things on here they had never ever put in the books, I suddenly felt grossly misinformed. He handed me another page, this one had a logo on it proclaiming The Dungeon with a picture of a whip and a mask. I smiled at the picture unable to imagine a better-suited logo and name to go with a bondage club. "The top one is a confidentiality agreement, it means you will not discuss what we are doing, in and out of the club, with anyone unless we both agree it's okay. Lizzie has signed one for the club, it's why she was not allowed to discuss it with you. I will not require you to sign that one since it is understood
