I’m Lila’s fiancée.” He said, introducing himself. “Really?” Eric drew the word out, extending it several syllables. He shifted his focus to me . “Your taste in men hasn’t changed, then.” I bit my tongue. I didn’t want to have this conversation, now or ever. Living through the humiliation and condemnation, and losing my family in the process had been enough.

“That is not the same thing.” “No,” Adrian said. “It is not.” Lucas stepped back. His shoulder brushed the cold glass behind him. “You tell me when to wake, when to dress, when to speak, when to stand beside you. Now you want to tell me what name belongs to me?” Adrian’s eyes returned to him. The words had struck something. Lucas saw the crack in that perfect control, small but real. “You are Lucas Bennett,” Adrian said. “Am I?” Adrian did not answer quickly enough.

“Infact, I'm so sure that I intend having a little chat with little Matt. That's his name, isn't it?” My heart stopped and then started racing. “Don't you dare hurt him, Luca.” His lips curled up in a devilish smile. “So, it is him.” “He knows nothing.” I told him. “Don't hurt him. Please.” “Hmm.” Luca lowered himself, his groin making contact with mine. He brought his nose to my hair and sniffed, letting out an appreciative moan. “Roses. I like it.”

“You think showing up here is some kind of power move? Because it’s not working.” His smirk widened. “Whatever you say, nightfang.” I was about to say something else when Eli cleared his throat, drawing both our attention back to him. “Some of us are trying to eat in peace here.” He said with a frown. Lucas kept his attention glued onto me as he glared into my soul. “Tell me the truth Adrian. Are you sure you hate me or do you just hate the fact that you can't beat me?” My wolf bristled, pushing against my control. He had made it mad.“Careful, Rayne.”

The intensity was much, and we both came. Luca lay beside me with a broad smile, and I wondered why he was smiling. "Was it that good?" I asked him, and he nodded. "I saw you moaning and pleading in your sleep once, and I had to take a cold shower for it. This morning, I saw the same scene, and I was drawn to you even more than I was then, so instead of taking a cold shower, I went for it, and the electricity was amazing. It took it all to my head." He said, still catching his breath. I laughed a bit, and his phone began to ring. He grumbled and went to get it.

"The dean literally used a PowerPoint slide with Emma's face on it as an example of 'alumni excellence'! I wanted to crawl under my seat!" I unlocked the door and stepped out into the hallway just as Maya turned the corner into the main living space. She froze dead in her tracks. Luca had just stepped out of the western wing, wearing a fresh pair of black sweatpants and a dark grey t-shirt that clung perfectly to his broad shoulders. His hair was still damp from the shower. "Oh my god," Maya breathed, her eyes widening. "The billionaire has returned!" Luca smirked, crossing his arms over his chest. "Still as loud as ever, brat."

And yet, even knowing this, I couldn’t untangle myself from it. After Adrian left, I poured myself a drink. The burn of whiskey was the only thing that still reminded me I was alive. Each sip was a punishment, each swallow a confession. I wondered how many more nights I could live like this before the bottle replaced the air in my lungs. My thoughts wandered back to Luca. His anger wasn’t just anger—it was betrayal, disappointment, hurt I had caused without meaning to. I remembered the way his eyes had looked at me the last time we spoke, like I was both the villain and the man he had once trusted. That memory haunted me more than anything.

“No. But I’m going to. Every inch of her. Every secret, every scar. And unlike you, I won’t waste it.” Adrian’s eyes flicked to the desk behind him. He grabbed the remote with a chilling efficiency, and the screen on the wall lit up. Lucas’s face drained of color as the video began. It was from the club—Lucas, drunk and reckless, with a woman on his arm. His hand slid down her waist, his lips pressed to her neck. The camera angle was sharp, showing every moment of his lack of restraint. “If this gets out, Lucas.” Adrian said and then he paused. “I think the company would be in great hands if you hand it back to me.”
