Chapter 118 LYRA'S POV Tonight is the night of the full moon, and I can't waste its power. WILDER fell asleep with his arm draped over me. It’s heavy, hard to shift away. FortuCASSIANly, of my three mates, WILDER is the least likely to be roused from sleep. He’s the one who’s spent almost no time living in the wild, so he hasn’t developed the instinct to listen for threats while he’s sleeping.

When the Sakura iced tea arrived, Viper took a sip. "You don’t want to get drunk tonight?" he asked. "Nope. I’m having lewd dreams about her," he said, sipping through the straw. "It’s very painful, you know." He turned back to Miss Porcher. "What?" she asked innocently. "Dreaming of someone who rejects me over and over again. It’s painful here." He pointed to his chest. No noise of any kind broke the complete stillness of the woods. He’d never been aware while dreaming before, but it had been a strange night all around, so what was one more weird thing to add to the pile? He remembered hearing someone say that if you could lucid dream, you could make yourself do things, like breathe underwater, or fly. He mused over it a moment, then took two running steps before leaping into the air . . . and falling to the ground with a thump. Twigs and leaves dug into his cheek as he fell on his face.

The morning air was cool, brushing her damp skin, but it did nothing to quiet the heat flooding her veins. This wasn’t the first time. For weeks now, she’d woken with dreams she couldn’t explain, she was either chasing shadows, running through forests that didn’t exist, or hearing whispers that weren’t hers. And this one was different. This dream had a person. Or a wolf, she couldn't tell. She passed by the mirror and her reflection startled her. Her wide grey eyes, and pink flushed cheeks, her white hair was sticking out in rough strands to her skin. And for one tiny second so fast she could swear it, she imagined it her eyes shined gold.

“...sa… Lisa!” I flung my eyes open and Xavier’s worried look flashed before me. With a hanky in his hand, he wiped my forehead. He did it quite gently as if I’d break any time if he was not careful enough. “You were crying in your sleep so I… I’m so sorry,” he apologized with those pretty eyes of his glistening with tears. Not to mention, his voice was shaky. W-Why the hell was he about to cry? Shouldn’t I be the one crying after that horrible nightmare? And where was that playboy attitude he had last night?

My exhaustion was total but my sleep wasn’t peaceful at all. My dreams became more vivid and strange, completely overwhelming my thoughts. They weren’t just vague feelings of cold or fear. They were full of bright light, colors, and sound. I found myself standing in the same place I always dreamed of. It was a vast, open field, the ground was covered in thick white mist swirling around my bare feet. There were no trees or buildings. The only thing in the sky was a huge full moon, the moonlight was a bright silver and painfully bright. It hurt my eyes, and I had to squint.

Archer shouted. “Gee, how calming and relaxing,” Peggy said dryly. Archer realized his mistake and stepped back. “Sorry, I-” “You’re on edge; a lot has happened,” Peggy said. “Maybe we should all take a nap…” *** Ariadne blinked awake.
