I took a deep sight and walk to the kitchen, and brewed some coffee. Once the coffee is brewed, I put it in my cup, and then I blow gently and taste it. It's brewed perfectly. I amble until I am at their back. I lean my back on the wall while watching them. I feel the bitterness of my feeling right now as I observe them sleeping. It's like the taste of the bitterness of my coffee.

United States Larisa woke up early in the morning, feeling excited about the Tour that awaited her, a Tour she promised herself and her unborn baby the previous night. She stretched her arms and legs, feeling the softness of the hotel bed beneath her. She smiled to herself and got out of bed, ready to start her day. The fiery ball of light rising from the horizon, colored the sky in shades of orange and yellow. The piercing sound of the alarm clock brought Susanna back from the dead of sleep. She started to wriggle and stretch within her little cosy, warm, haven that is she calls her bed. As parts of her body were gradually turning on, she realised today was the day she starts her new job. LAYLAS POV Layla woke up the next day feeling refreshed. She hadn't slept like that in quite some time. Her dreams hadn't been as calm as they had been either until last night. She no longer dreamed of the home that she had grown up in burning to cinders anymore. Instead, she dreamed of the rusty wolf and its golden lava eyes. She now seemed to wonder to herself if they truly were golden. She couldn't tell because they burned so intensely. She began to wake herself up and threw on her clothes for today's classes.

When systems wake, they do it in layers. First the hum—the servers in the control room drawing breath. Then the glow—the monitors warming from blue to white. After that, the people follow in their own stutters: coffee on, locks off, voices low. Today, Elysium woke early and on purpose. We were done being prey. We were learning how to hunt ethically.

With a mixture of fear and longing coursing through her veins, Ava took a hesitant step forward, knowing that her life would never be the same again.
