Once we walked into my place, Nate headed over to take a seat on the couch while I went to get changed. "What's the dress code for tonight?" I asked, digging through my drawers as I considered my options. "Literally just wear like sweats or something," he laughed. "It's gonna be super chill." I took his suggestion, picking out some grey sweatpants and a black Calvin Klein sports bra. I was a proud member of the Iddy-Biddy-Tittie-Committee, which was simultaneously a blessing and a curse. One of the main perks (for want of a better word) was that I could comfortably and confidently wear sports bras instead of shirts, something which I would forever be thankful for.

On the day of our ninth wedding anniversary, I sat in the empty living room and summoned the system I had not contacted in ages. "System, help me submit an application. I've decided to leave this world." The cold, mechanical voice came through, and somehow it sounded comforting. "Understood, Harry. Your departure application has been received. The space-time corridor is being constructed. I will come to retrieve you in one week." I hummed quietly and stared at my phone screen. A family photo of three stared back. In the photo, I stood in the center holding an adorable little girl. A beautiful woman stood beside me, kissing my cheek.

His clean, woody scent enveloped me, and his warm hand gently stroked my back. "Cry," he said softly. "I'm here. No one will ever hurt you again." That simple promise was like opening a floodgate. All the hurt, the pain, and the bitterness burst forth at that moment. I buried my face in his shirt and cried like a child. Lorenzo let my tears soak his collar, holding me even tighter.

The faint scent of cinnamon and vanilla lingered in the apartment. Isabelle moved quietly through the small space, her hands busy and with a big smile on her face as she adjusted the streamers in Ryan’s favorite shades of green and blue. A felt banner stretched across the wall above the table, hand-stitched, uneven in its lettering: “Happy Birthday, Sweetheart.” The table wasn’t grand. But it was warm. A sugar-free banana-oat muffin, just how he needed it, sat gently on a ceramic plate, a single beeswax candle resting at its center.

In that moment, I no longer felt like the bullied Emily, but a queen in the spotlight. I took the microphone. "Hello everyone, I am Emily." I wanted him to see me in this, I wonder how he would react.

For a friend.” “Hmm,” the attendant replied with a knowing smile. “So what do you want to make?” “A scarf,” Lily replied, turning back to the shelves. “Well,” the attendant said, holding up two different balls of yarn. “Merino Wool or Alpaca would be nice.” Lily’s gaze was drawn to the attendant’s left hand. She was holding a ball of Alpaca yarn. It was light blue
