No matter that I’m the Crown Prince. I flip through the book titled, “Powerful Magic,” looking for any mention of the Haze. Nothing jumps out at me right away, so I flip to the glossary in the back and see there’s a section about it. I find the right page, my eyes scanning quickly for anything that looks relevant. Essentially, all this book says is that the Moon Goddess uses the Haze to help true mates find one another. Nothing is more powerful than the Haze, which should assure all participants that they’ve found their fated mate.

The Moon Goddess. The first trial materialized like a living, breathing magical maze. Each magical current represented a different supernatural element — fire, water, earth, air, and something else. Something I couldn't quite categorize. “Navigate the maze,” the voice instructed. “But not with your feet. With your magical perception.” Supernatural frequencies became visible. Glowing. Pulsing. In fairy tales, castles usually collapse with a single spell. Suddenly, the moon shone over the spot she sat and the clouds begin to disappear from the sky. The moment moon’s light fell over the circle, the colour of the fire changed from yellow oranged to deep red. It was terrifying and my breath hitched.

“This isn’t mine, okay? I only found this by chance. And I dropped something in here the reason I came back.” “Oh, what an honest answer. ” “I’m telling the truth, Ariah. And why do I need to explain to you?” he said, squinching up his face in mild indignation. “And stop sticking your nose to something it wasn’t supposed to be.” “I’m not telling you’re lying though. Allow me to tell you this one thing. Moon magic deals with emotions and manipulating them. I have this kind of spell which makes a person more open, so they’ll be more willing to tell me secrets.”

I can definitely live my destiny perfectly. “Cheer up Meghan! You're a strong girl! You can get through all this. You are your mother's descendant! The Descendant of the Moon Goddess!” I said to myself. I don't know where that energy comes from. I suddenly felt full of energy. It was as if the words I had just said we're like a very powerful magic spell. My legs feel strong, my hands are no longer shaking. I could feel my heart rate starting to increase. The adrenaline rush also makes me more excited.

Ken’s expression became unreadable again, which somehow scared me more. Jessie looked between all of us awkwardly. “Well… this feels emotionally catastrophic.” Nobody laughed. Because it was true. The Blood Moon glowed brighter overhead. My magic surged again. And this time, every single one of them felt it too.
